Default My Yorkie's a pee machine. Help!

Sorry to make this my first post but this is really getting to me. I'll post an introduction later tonight.

I have an 8 year old toy Yorkie, Tobias, since he was a pup and a 10 year old American Eskimo wich I rescued from the shelter 9 years ago. So the Eskimo came first by a year.

My Yorkie is walked several times a day and goes out in the yard. However, he still has enough to pee everywhere, on table/chair legs, my 3 year old son's LARGE toys, CURTIANS, trash can, furniture etc... I've gotten to the point where I threw out my area rugs and I'm down to hard wood floors. I've been doing good with the clean up but there are times that I'll just happen to notice a new spot. It would be great to wake up and not have to survey the house.

I limit the water intake so I don't think this is an issue and he doesn't poo in the house so I don't think this is an "I gotta go" potty issue. My other dog will not go in the house at all, an angel .

Can this be a territorial issue. Tobias is not fixed. Do you thing he's too old(8) to be fixed and would this help at all. He's also a nervous wreck around new people. He'll bark when the bell rings and hide when they come in. He's had a few anxiety attacks in the past when people were over. The vet put him on meds when needed but the meds didn't help much.

An help would be appreciated.

Yeah, we're heading in that direction. This morning he pee'd in my fiancee's(sp?) shoe. Normally I would be mad but I just sat back and silently laughed. We've got to watch with jackets hanging from chairs too.

I would definately get him neutered. What he is doing is marking or spraying his terroritory. They will mark (pee) anything in site. Male dogs do this to let other dogs, animals, people know that, that is his terroritory. It is a very common thing that most to all male dogs do. Neutering him will help correct this problem.

Funny thing is I never went through this with my,ops...my parents, pair of Siberian Huskies. My American Eskimo is fixed and I've never had any issues with him. Once we get our sons confirmation and grammer school graduation and birthday out of the way Tobias is being scheduled.

Sad peeing and pooping

well, I guess I am another one of the bunch. I have two males and their sister and one of the male's daughter. They pee like crazy, I have never let them the run of the house. I have kid's gates on the kitchen and of course they pee on ythe refrigerator, doors, even their food containers and water!! I get very angry but nothing I can do because I know they are marking territories, but I am going nuts! please help!. My mother takes them out every hour because I am not home and they still pee when they come in even if they have been out. Now my younger one had puppies 41/2 months ago and it has been difficult to train the puppies. Is fixing them going to help? I've never done this to any of my dogs but I am going to have it done on the male that has sired 12 puppies with the females of my girlfriend who is a breeder. I might fix the mother too. What I am afraid of is that their personality changes and that they get fat. Please help with the training. I never have caged any of my dogs. thanks for your help.

If he is marking, I don't believe that neutering him now will help at all. I don't have a male yet, but many people on here have suggested belly bands for those little boys who just like to pee. it may not stop the peeing but at least it will be contained.

Neutering a male dog will not always correct the problem. If you get them neutered at a young age this could correct the problem. However, if they are older, more than a year old, neutering won't always correct the marking because they have been accustomed to doing it for so long. Keep in mind that every dog is different. I have a friend whose dog peed and sprayed everything, until they got it fixed and then it stopped. On the other hand, they had another dog that they neutered and he kept peeing on everything even after he got neutered. If this is the case then your best bet is to buy a mark out male wrap, it is like a diaper for male dogs and prevents them from spraying or marking anywhere in the house, keeping your furniture and everything else protected. You can buy the mark out male wraps at several stores, however this one has the best price.. www.dog.com As far as behavior goes, males tend to be more loving and committed when they are neutered. As long as you have your dog on a good brand of dog food that is not real high on fat, and basically watch what he eats, and that he gets some exercise, weight gain may not be a problem, unless until he gets alot older. Good luck, I hope everything works out.

I have a male yorkie that is 16 months. He was neutered at 5 months yet still pee's like every hour! I know he is still young and am working on the "potty training" thing, but I am doing everything I can to get him to hold it longer. If I put him in the litter box he will go (so he knows what its for), but then he will get out and go 45 min later!

Basically the only time he doesnt pee is when he is asleep!

wow your expecting to much even when there 5-6-7- years old they will have to pee more than 2 -3 times an hour they should be able to hold it if they cant go out
my boys go out every 10 mins or so to pee

Hi, how long does it usually take to potty train a dog? My male dog is going to be 4 months old, and he cannot hold it. I have heard that dogs usually do not pee or poop where they will be (kennel), yet my puppy does. Is he too young? Because I have heard of so many stories of owners who do not have problems with their dogs because they were potty trained easily. What can I do to start potty training him correctly. Please Please Please advise!

My Merlot is almost three years old and never had that peeing around the house problem. Without being neutered. Maybe because you have the other male dog, it's a territorial thing.

First of all, is your puppy kept in a kennel or a crate? Secondly, if he is kept in a crate, is the crate too big? You can tell if it is too big if your puppy can go to the bathroom in one part of the crate and sleep in another part of the crate, and they will go in their crate if it is too big. Also, I would start feeding your puppy in his crate, dogs don't like to pee where they know they will be eating food. In addittion, are you crating him too long, since they are puppy's they go quite frequently due to their small bladders. The older they get, the longer they can hold it. I have a four month old male yorkie and he gets let outside every 3 to four hours, except at night and in the morning, he can hold it for up to eight hours. Remember to let your puppy out to go to the bathroom right after he plays, eats, and wakes up from a nap. When you do let your dog out of his crate to go potty and you take him to the spot you want him to go, give a command such as go potty or do your business, in the future he will recongnize this command making things faster and easier for you. If he does go like he is suppose to, then make a big deal out of it. Praise him like he just did the world's greatest thing and give him a delicious treat for it to show him that he was good and did what he was suppose to. This ensures that he will go for you when and where you want him to because he knows he will get praised and a reward for it. I hope this helps, good luck!
