| Crate training Hi, my baby girl Bella is 11 weeks. I am attempting to crate train her, by this I mean, she is in her crate while I am at work and at night to sleep, I come home for lunch and let her out for an hour, put her back in, and she's in there until about 2ish when my boyfriend gets home...all in all, never more that 3.5-4 hrs. she was doing really well at first, but now she is peeing in her crate Am I leaving her in there for too long???? Is this not considered Crate training??? When I'm at home, she is with me all the time, and we go outside every 2 hours or more, she is even starting to go to the door when she has to go...I'm just worried because she is peeing in the crate during the day and I'm feeling really bad but I can't come home any more often than I do????? Thanks, Mar & Bella |

| When I brought my puppy home at 11 weeks he did have a few accidents in his crate. After 2 weeks he just stopped having accidents in his crate. He is just over 4 months old now and he hasn't had an accident for weeks. He sleeps in his crate for 4 1/2 hours in the morning. I think if you give it a week or two things will work out. What size of crate are you using? |

| Not sure of exact size, but it's the smallest one they had at the Pet store...she's so small she has room to move around though. I am going to give it some time and see if she gets better at holding it. Thanks! |

| You probably need a divider in the crate, however 3-4 hours is way too long for an 11 week old. I know they say 1 hour for every month but I don't believe it. Loki still doesn't make it 5-6 hours and he's almost a year and a half. We got him at 13 weeks and he had to pee every 15 mins. You can't keep her in there longer than she can potentially hold it, so try an x-pen and just ignore any messes. Use the crate when you are home and follow your routine. Then try the crate during the day in a month or two. Good luck.
