Goes potty on the carpet, no where else. My little dog Buster is a Yorkie Shih-Tzu and he's been doing really good at the potty training thing recently, but our upstairs is all hardwood floors and our downstairs is all carpet, why does he immediately or soon after he's on the carpet, go potty every single time? Even if he's just went 5 minutes ago outside? Maybe cuz he's not used to the carpet? He pottied on my sisters carpet at her house too, right after he'd just pottied outside. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

How old is Buster? Is he neutered? Could he be marking and not peeing?

I read that puppies are attracted to plush things; they just love to pee on them! I wish I had a good suggestion! Good luck!

Thanks for the responses Buster is 4 months old on the 14th of April. He has not been neutered yet, he'll be neutered the 22nd I think. How do you tell the difference between when they are marking or peeing? Its just so weird because he does soo good about going to the door and only going outside and stuff but even if he's just been outside and WENT he'll still go on carpet.

sorry it took me a little while to get back to your question. More than likely your dog is peeing on your carpet. I believe he is too young to start marking. A sure sign your dog is marking is the hiking of the leg(Not that a dog will not hike his leg to pee but a male dog will always hike their leg to mark). Here is what I think is happening. Your dog likes the carpet. He has a texture preference and it is your carpet. He will go outside and pee(just as much as he has too) and he will finishing peeing when he comes in your house on your carpet. Not sure what you can try. Would suggest staying longer outside and make sure he is done peeing. I've been told it isn't uncommon for dogs to pee 3 for 4 times before they are really done peeing. You can try setting down a pee pee pad indoor on the carpet on an area he particularly likes and see if he will start using the pad. Not sure what else you could try. I'll let you know if I think about anything else. Good luck.
