I Love Thor Donating Member | Attacking our cat!! Please help me! I really am at a loss (again!). Thor keeps attacking our cat. This happens almost everyday, and sometimes twice a day. For no reason, he'll just go for the cat. I thought he was getting better, but obviously not. He just attacked our cat really bad and I pulled a huge chunk of fur out of Thor's mouth. It's like he is totally out of control. His jaw was just shaking...he does that jaw thing when he's playing to rough sometimes too. It's just like he has gone to another level or something...its crazy! When he attacks the cat he goes to time out, and before he goes to timeout I tell him NO, BAD BOY, and stare him in the eyes for a minute. Please help me!! I feel so bad for our poor cat. It's not fair. I really need some advise. Thanks. |

| I am sorry you are going through that. My dogs will bark like crazy at our cat but they dont attack her. She is old so she stays upstairs away from, them most of the day. I would just try to keep them separated the best you can.

| Boy Thor's Terrier side is really coming out! Maybe if you put a leash on him and when he goes for your cat correct him? I'm sorry I'm not a professional trainer but I know the Yorkie mentality.

| Can you put your cat someplace (at least part of the time) where your pup can't get at it. My little pup drives my 21-pound Bichon crazy....playing, biting, playing, biting, etc. etc. Sometimes I put my Bichon in my bedroom on my bed and close the door and let him take a nap. I also let my Bichon outside often (which he loves) - and again he can get away from the playful little puppy. I want you to know that the Bichon loves to play with the Yorkie - especially in the evenings. They have great fun. He just wants to play occasionally - for sure, not constantly. My Bichon also likes to lie on top my desk when I'm in my office. The crazy little Yorkie can't get him there. It's just another place for him to take a break. I'm surprised your cat hasn't found its own places to get away from your pup. Mine used to just jump up on something that my dogs couldn't get to. Good luck! |

| Have the cat close to you, and when Thor goes after it stop him from doing so physically with light pushes and point at him and tell him to stop. You have to establish that the cat is part of your pack and is not to be messed with.

| Aw Hannah, I feel your pain (or your cats) pain on this one. I finally had to give my 2 cats their own room from the dogs. I really think it is the terrier in the Yorkie to go after the cats and I don't want anyone hurt.

| What We Tried Once Zeke got comfortable with his feline sister, he decided to assert his dominance and would attack her hind end anytime she walked by him. As you have, we got very frustrated and wondered what to do. We got extremely lucky and the first aversion training we tried with him has worked. We got several water bottles from the travel sized health and beauty section at Wal-Mart and placed them strategically around our house so that one was never out of hand's reach. The first time that Zeke went after Sasha's hind end we sprayed him (make sure you set the sprayer so that it sprays out a line and not a fine mist) on his hind end and firmly said "NO CAT!". When he looked back again to see where the spray was coming from, we held up the bottle and said again "NO CAT". It only took getting sprayed twice before he stopped running after her hind end. Now if he looks like he's going to take after her all we have to do is say "NO CAT" and he settles down. This has also been an excellent way to stop him from doing other things we don't want him to do like zealously licking any patch of salty skin to be found. I don't mind it so much, but my balding (and very sensitive about balding) Dad got very upset when he took off his hat and Zeke went straight for his shiny (and salty) bald head! |

| When I had two cats and two dogs - I fed my cats in my bedroom. I had a table in there and the cat's food (dry food) and water was on the table. They could hop up and eat and drink whenever they wanted. And, the dogs couldn't reach it - and lost interest in it. So we never had any problems. (And - I have a very nice bedroom - my cats ate on a beautiful little table with a lace tablecloth - they had it made!) I have to feed my Bichon in a different room. My Yorkie is such a pig and eats so fast that he eats both their food. And, my Bichon is so gentle and shy that he just stands and watches him do it. My dogs have dry food that they can share and both eat during the day -- but my Bichon goes into my bedroom every morning so that he can get his breakfast all to himself. You just have to be creative - and make it easy for everyone. The nice things about cats is that they can jump and dogs can't.... Carol Jean |

| I would move the cats food to another room. I am shocked that the cat has not gone after your Yorkie or used his claws on him!

| I dont have much help for you, but I do sympathise, because I deal with it EVERYday. Bailey is bad when the cat it coming in from outside he hides under the table, then attacks, or when I'm trying to leave the cat out. If I try to pick the cat up, to put him out, he bark and jumps and will grab at the cat ( usually getting a wad of fur) OR he'll bite at me! Which is really bad,and if I yell or say NO, he is so into the attack he doesn't even hear me. I have tried a water bottle ,, squirting Bailey while the cat is coming or going. See I'm no help, but I know what you're going through. I do block of the hall and spare rooms with a gate, so the cat races to that point and jumps the gate, and Bailey can't get to him, sometimes the cat sits on the otherside of the gate and swats at him through the holes.

| Hi, My liitle girl will do that when there is a bone of food nearby. She likes hide little pieces of food nearby. If we take the food away it stops. She doesn't attack the cat she just gives her a big warning and telling off. I hope you find a solution! Poor cat!! |

My furkids Donating Member | My little Sadie Mae, all of 5.5lbs, will jump on my 20+lb Maine Coon. He has wacked her a couple of times and I thought this would stop her but,nooooo...she goes back after him like a rottie! For the most part they get along fine...but, if he is doing something she knows we scold him for she will start growling...almost like she is telling on him...It's really kinda funny! However, we do not encourage this..I am worried that he will retaliate someday and he could really hurt her. My Mom and Dad watch Sadie for me while I am at work...They have been watching her since she was 8 weeks old. They have a mini schnauzer. Sadie will attack Heidi and bite at her ears if somebody comes to the door or she sees the neighbors dogs outside. We have tried everything to make her stop but nothing has worked..Unfortunately I think this is a terrier thing. I do have a order in for another furbaby so I hope she will be fine with a new fursister....If you find a way to make your little boy stop this please let me know!!
