When I had two cats and two dogs - I fed my cats in my bedroom. I had a table in there and the cat's food (dry food) and water was on the table. They could hop up and eat and drink whenever they wanted. And, the dogs couldn't reach it - and lost interest in it. So we never had any problems.
(And - I have a very nice bedroom - my cats ate on a beautiful little table with a lace tablecloth - they had it made!)

I have to feed my Bichon in a different room. My Yorkie is such a pig and eats so fast that he eats both their food. And, my Bichon is so gentle and shy that he just stands and watches him do it.

My dogs have dry food that they can share and both eat during the day -- but my Bichon goes into my bedroom every morning so that he can get his breakfast all to himself.

You just have to be creative - and make it easy for everyone. The nice things about cats is that they can jump and dogs can't....
