Hi everyone. Please could you tell me when I should start feeding my puppies puppy food. They are now 19 days old, crawling around and inquisitive. The father is a blonde and the mother is black and blonde. Father 3.2kgs and mother 2.4kgs. Both are girls puppies, now 500gms :) This is my first litter, so all help will be welcomed. Thanks |
Hi SpunkyChels, if you go to the breeders forum you can make a new Thread and ask them your question. That way they will see you post faster and will be able to help you ;) this is the link: Breeder Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community Just click on "New Thread" and post your question :) |
Hi , 1st time posting. maybe you are expecting too much from her too soon. wait a while before taking her to visit or to hotels....yorkies are smart so I'm sure you have good luck. |
That was such good advice on potty training. your pups breeders were not very responsible. I have been extremely lucky. I rescued my 1st female at 4 yrs. old. She was only a breeder & lived in a crate. only took 2 days to potty train her to pads & outside. Two mo. ago, rescued an 6 yr. old male ----same thing 2 to 5 days all potty trained to a pad and outside/ he was dirty at his 1st home .Only takes showing him something 3 x's & he gets it. so incredibly smart these little Yorkies. Just don't allow them to outsmart you !!!!! A well trained dog is a joy forever !!! |
Our Yorkie Kricket! Being that we knew Kricket was going to be a small yorkie and that we had had another 6pound yorkie before her (Gizmo) we had pre decided to litter box train! The winter weather is hard on me so a little yorkie! And yes I spoiled her.... Still do! We when we took her out we had puppy pads that we would put down in the bathroom. My mother in law used to be so amazed at how she would just get up and run down to the bathroom and go like people. And like people she liked her privacy! Now we are on two acres and after having her in the yard walking about with us she piddled outside! She has become a DOG out here! Unlike in the city where she would go out for a walk and come in to piddle! Both our Yorkies have been tricky... Both were given a treat for going and both faked the piddle act just to get the treat! Now that was alarmingly smart to us mere people! I find they can be very stubborn when they choose... One day at a time! |

:thumbup::thumbup: AMEN!!!!!!! It is at a point where I am uncomplicating my life and if it aint easy and less stressful, I dont fool with it! I have to add I dont usually take my pups to other peoples homes.....that solves a lot of problems that can arise. |
\yes I have taken to the belly bands when I visit, as my Yorkie is more prone to mark indoors at a strangish home. My male BRT not at all. I also don't take them to homes where I personally don't know how well behaved and trained their own animals are. The few times a year we socialize outside of our "doggy friends", I usually keep our animals at home. |
dog I am wondering why my boys pee on their blankets or towel on the floor. I trained them on pee pee pads and I think they must think the towel or blanket is a pee pee pad. I can't figure out the dog mind! What are they thinking! They will pee on any rug I lay down. I guess they can't tell the difference. I use No More Marking by Natures Miracle and they still mark! I don't know what to do. |
Pixie will only use the pee pad at my house. If we go anywhere I have to take her outside to pee. There is an amazing spray I use:Amazon.com: Wondercide Eco-88 32 oz Pet Stain and Odor Remover E8801: Pet Supplies make sure you do exactly as they say. I usually soak up the pee then I steam clean it and then I use the spray. |

does the training mist really work ? |
Gizmo is pee pad training. He doesn't do very well at other people's home. However, when he's home I always know when he goes on his pee pad because he comes prancing out. I can hear the prance in his steps and he heads straight to me and I say "What is it, show me" and he'll look at the restroom and then I follow him. Once I see the spot or poop I praise him and he gets a Cheerio. :) |
I've just gotten a female (7 wks old Wed). She will either pee on the pad or poop but I didn't realize she might not want to do both on the same pad. I'll try putting down another one beside her pee tray. Do you use the pee trays or just put the pads on the floor? |
My Jazz tried to pull off the belly band. She would sit and pout with these. There are puppy potties that are made for travel. They look nice at your in-laws house, and most hotels like you bringing these rather they puppy pads Hope this helps as well for pups that don't like the bands, and setting out a pad when you are traveling in not your best option. |
PETsMART or PETCO...:) |

pee pad enticement Mack is 1 1/2 yrs old & has been raised from the beginning to use pee pads. He expects and receives a tiny bit of a treat each time. He very rarely has an accident. We cut up a Sterlite box to fit in a corner of the laundry room and always have it covered with pads. I replace them immediately after use (I cut up the pads into 12"X12" pcs so only change the soiled pcs.). |
Does anyone use a litter box, how do you get your dog not to eat the litter, I have a two year old Yorkie and a one year old Yorkie. They love to get into the cat litter which does not happen. They are pad trained, my girl is better then my boy. But my boy will not go in front of anyone including me. I have taken both to the vet many times about it. He said it a clean thing. Dogs that are extremely clear will not go to the bathroom in front of anyone. He also gets very embarrassed if he has a accident in front of someone. My girl go pee about 100 times a day. Both have not a thing wrong. My boyfriend feels they do not know the difference between the pads and the carpet. I also have had some other dogs over for play dates and they marked now it a marking game. My boyfriends dogs has marked everything curtians, beds, couches, wood furniture. Now every dog that comes over marks. Please any help would be great... |
Emma uses pee pads and she is really good with them, given half a chance she will go in the cat room and pee on the floor close to their litter box I think just to mark the area as hers, I think she is a little jealous of the cats and likes to dominate them. When she was younger she mistook any kind of throw rug as a pee pad so I couldn't keep a bath mat down. :aimeeyork |
Pad training my first Yorkie Hey everyone, My puppy turns 5 months today, Dallas is doing well. He poops on the potty pad has that down great but peeing is something he is working on . I take him out in his little yard and we go for 3 walks, morning, afternoon, evening, weather permitting. I had him on a schedule and it was working great , but as a lot of you know that fluctuates. He is still adjusting I got him at 11 weeks old end of July. He is precious and a little devil at times , but that's how puppies are. He still is a good boy, listens well. Potty training is tough best of luck to all of us. Now if I can get him to eat on his old schedule I would be happy. Everything is a work in progress and trial and error. Enjoy your fur babies they all are adorable . Unfortunately it won't let me post my pics of Dallas they exceed the image limit pixels thing. Any suggestions on any topic is much welcomed . Enjoy your day .:animal-pa |
Cheerio I just game my puppy a Cheerio yesterday. lol I think I started out with too many pads behind couch and in open in living room one at kitchen door . Like I said trial and error. |

My Baxter is perfectly pee pad trained at home but is not at my moms as well! I just keep him in a belly band so he doesn't pee on her furniture and floors it's the only way I've come up with. |
