I felt like you were telling my story... Use the pad at home but pees under my moms coffe table on the rug. Only difference in my story is he also pees on my rug and uses the wee wee pad at moms. Yes He uses the pad majority of the time no matter where we go so he knows what he is doing. But then for whatever reason he uses the rug when he wants also. I dont know how to stop it and it is driving me mad! I yell no when he goes on the rug and he doestn stop he just stares me in my face like "to late haha" And I reward when he goes on the pad. So he pees on the pad I reward. Then he poops on the rug. So I am investing in a little green machine to clean my carpets until someone can tell me how to fix this problem. |

I have the same problem and hopefully i will find a way to stop it as well. I did the steam cleaning, enzyme cleaners, etc and she still goes on the carpet in the same exact spots everytime. maybe there just isnt a solution. no more yorkies for me. |
We just got our Yorkie and the breeder said he used the pad at her house, so we bought some and he won't use them, but he does go outside so that is good. |
Pee pad success Zoey was peeing on the pad, but pooping on the rug. We put up baby gates to limit her access to the house. She can only be in a 20X20 space. It worked the same day! She started using the pad regularly. She is 12 weeks and doing great. The only problem is that we give a small food reward when she goes on the pad. Now, she goes to the pad to squeeze out a dime sized spot and then looks at you like "where's the cookie?" We had to reduce the size of the reward to just a taste because she was consuming less puppy food.We were worried the cookies were replacing the nutrition she would get from puppy food. They are so smart! They find a way to WIN every time! |
Guppy uses the pee pads both at home and at work. I do use lots of rewards and he's done very well...although we do sometimes have an accident. If my office door is closed when he's inside, he'll use the pad to poop. But if the door is open he'll go right in front of the store's door. Guess he's trying to tell me he'd rather go outside? |
My little Oscar, who is now 4 months is doing great, he sleeps on my bed with me all night and so far so good, no accidents! It is lovely cuddling up to him in the night. I live alone and when my previous dog died at 14 years old in February of this year, I couldn't sleep. I swore I wouldn't get another dog as I had never felt hurt like that before.....any way I did and I have never looked back....I sleep like a baby having my little baby with me through the night. Having never had a yorkie before I didn't know what to expect, they are different to the big dogs I have had in the past but they are so adorable. Oscar came to live with me 2 months ago and he is the light of my life....anyway, I digress, so far Oscar hasn't had any accidents for about 2 weeks now, he even stands at the door when he wants to "go" which is really encouraging! Oscar has the run of the first floor of the house (apart from when I am out) so it is up to me to keep a close eye on him, so far so good. Oh, and I know he shouldn't sleep on the bed but I have always let my dogs sleep on the bed and I can't change this habit! |

I've seen where one member bought a child's play tent and put the pee pads inside. Maybe you could do something like that and take the tent with you to your mom's house? Just a thought, hope it helps!:) |
Wee Wee Pads Hi Y'all, We are brand new to this forum stuff but seasoned veterans with Yorkies (of 7 months duration). Our baby "Roufianna" took to a dog litter box with a dip on one side to facilitate entry and exit when se was tiny. Instead of liter we used pads and never found it necessary to add scent to them. Maybe the litter box makes a more memorable target or possibly extends a feeling of security. I think pads are much easier to deal with and neater then litter. N e way she began using them right away with accidents of course but the accidents thinned out tremendously within 4 months. We take her everywhere with us and her second home is our boat that we all stay on 3 nights a week in summer. In any event she loves being outdoors and now will not use the wee wee unless she really has to. From what I hear we have been very lucky :) Of course we will see what happens in winter when its cold and wet out?? She is now 9 1/2 months and we are thinking that she will come into season soon. What can you do to protect furniture (our bed) etc. We will not have her spayed until we decide if we are going to breed her once. Thanks for the input and the ears. |
Wow. Jasper is pad trained. When I go to my daughter"s home I put a pad in her hallway, show him where it is, put his food in her kitchen and he goes right to the pad. |
I think it's because she's not in her home. I use a spray on my area rugs so they won't want to go there. I also use the mothers miracle to kill the scent. Maybe you can use gates to keep her where you want to. |

I am curious, what spray do you use? |
It can be QUITE EMBARASING! :o Tobey is 100% potty trained to pee pads at home- he's 10 months old and never has an accident, (like 3 misplaced poops maybe in the last 7 months) But recently my aunt and uncle watched him for the weekend at their house because we had to go out of town and he didn't use his potty pad there AT ALL! not even ONCE! I was so embarased when I picked him up! I thought he would do good because when we've taken him to my parents (but we were there with him) he used the pee pad pretty well (like 3 out of 5 times I'd say). My dad suggested that the next time we take Tobey to an unfamiliar place, that we take a long a pad that he has peed on before and use that one to establish the "place to go" at the new place- because maybe the smell will clue him in?? Do you think this would work better? |

What's "training mist"? I'm a new Yorkie mom....Got her yesterday...She's 12 weeks old... |
Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Miami Posts: 754 Default For those of you who's yorkies are pee pad trained... Esme does great on the pee pads at home. I take her to my moms house every Saturday. My mom has two Pomeranians who are also pee pad trained. I set Esme's pad next to theirs and I walk her over there and have her do her business on the pad. Now, the problem is that she still insists on peeing on my moms area rug in under the dining room table. I don't know why she does this??? We have some area rugs at home, so I don't think it's because she hasn't experienced a rug before. Each time she does her thing there we clean it with Nature's Miracle, so I don't think it's the smell that makes her keep going there. My mom thinks Esme is the cutest, so she doesn't get upset. But, I am wondering, will she ever be potty trained in my mom's house too?? When dogs are completely pee pad trained, does that mean they will ONLY go on the pads wherever they are? Or will she only go on the pads, at home? I am really curious about this. Mari I think he does it because he smells the other dogs at your mother's house, he looks at it like competition he wants to be the top dog..lol so he pees there to show the other dogs |
Pee pads to going outside Freyja was pee pad trained last year when we got her and the winters are cold. This summer we have been taking her out to pee about every 4 hours and she has been doing great. However lately she has taken to pooping on our hall rug. I've been using Nature's Miracle spray and even shampooed the rug. When we went away she was even good about going outside. Two problems: 1) We always have to take her out. She won't signal us that she needs to go. We tried jingle bells on the door, but they freaked her out. What next? 2) She always poops in my daughter and son-in-laws house and they do not have a sense of humor at all:( In fact she is "banned" from their house. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have my GiGi pee pad trained at home but when we vacation at my brothers (few times) she is completely house broke??? but refused to do that at my house!! |
We started working with Stella when she came home. I use Potty Training Aid spray by Simple Solutions purchased at Pet Smart and Arm & Hammer potty pads from Target. Everytime she used the pad we would tell her how good she was and give her a treat. Now when she goes and we don't see her she will walk over to us then back to the pad and then us again and with a looks that says "what are you waiting for, I did it" We also use the Simple Solutions Stain & Odor remover for any accidents or misses. |
Meeko uses his pad everywhere we go,whether friends, family or hotels. I think he's major turning point was when we took him on a weeks vacation. It was a road trip where each night we were in a different hotel. Yet, he was constisant on using his pad, even better than he was at home. Then when we got home, he continued to be a great boy and used his pad. Before the vacation, he was kinda hit and miss. |
We started out housebreaking our pup by taking him outside but I am not always able to make it home during the day to let him out so we recently switched to a litter box. During the day he is left in a small bathroom with his bed, water, toys and the litter box. After the first day he consistently goes in the box. However if we open up the door to the kitchen he will always go on the linoleum instead of going back into where the box is, any suggestions? How long does it normally take to housebreak a yorkie? |
wee wee pads Our gal began using the litter boxes at about 3 mos. We put 3 of them strategically around our ranch house. She is now 13 mos. and goes potty outside like a big girl. Its getting cold on Long Island so we put her coat on but I dont think she will go back to the boxes as she now calls me to let her out if I forget. Good luck Stephen Janet and Roufianna |
Cooper Cooper is 16 months old . I have had him for about 2 months. he came from a home where he was one of 2 dogs, both the same age. I leave Cooper in a crate during the day while I am at work, and take him outside as soon as I get home. he always goes outside, but still pees and poops in the house at other times!! I have a puppy pad down but he ignores it. I also have a Maltece that goes aut as well, but will use puppy pads at night or if I am gone from home to long for her. When Cooper does something on the floor I scold him and put him on the puppy pad, but he just doesnt seem to get it !! Anyone have any ideas on what else I can do to get him fully trained? Hes the sweetest little thing , I dont plan to give up on him, but I really go through lots of natures miracle trying to clean up after him... |
Buddy does now always use the litterbox, he has since about 4 1/2 months. Once in awhile I will find pee on the floor next to the litterbox but that seems to be more of an experiment with lifting his leg than it is an accident. It is getting warmer out now so we will see how going outside goes, I guess as long as he is not using my floor I don't really care which method he prefers. |
Guppy just turned a year old. He now lets me know by barking at the door when he needs to go out. As long as I get to him pretty quick he always goes outside, especially at the store when he's with me during the day. Once in a great while he'll go right in front of the door at home, but very rare these days, and pretty much only when one of us isn't there to let him out. |
Puppy pads I have bought many brands of puppy pads and EVERY one of them Leaks all the way through!!! I have them on the laundry room floor and it is tile but I have to mop everytime I change the pads. Is there a pad that keeps the pee in the pad and not on the floor underneath it???? Please help!!! Ronda:confused: :( |

The most valuable ting you can give your baby (fur or otherwise) is your time. Take him out with you for a walk, he will soon be strutting his stuff and marking his turf for all to see/smell. Our lil Roufianna is the scourge of the squirrel population in our neighborhood and after a good barking/growling session religiously marks her turf to warn the little varmits off. Of course a "good potty" or the like will also help show your approval of a successful walk. Do you have a fenced backyard? It helps as follow-through when a walk is not practical and once the idea of going outdoors gets through. Best of luck. Roufianna's Dad |

Maybe either take the area rug up when your there or put a diaper on the dog. Dogs can be totally house broken but for some odd reason, some just can't resisit the temptation to "mark". |
