pee pads or leave it Quote:

I use washable pee pads underneath the disposable ones. That way I dont have to spend as much on disposable ones. This catches the overflow so i dont have to worry about leaking. She has never peed on any thing else. |
We only use pee pads. Emma goes on them 99% of the time & the other 1% is right beside them. When we take her places, we make sure she knows where we've put one down at & she will go on it. We spent the first few months trying to get her to go outside (of course this was the coldest part of the year :thumbdown ), and had a pad inside just in case. She started doing so well on the pads, we just let her use them all the time. Plus, we had new neighbors move in that just let their dogs roam....and that scared me havin her outside with them. I've tried about every kind of disposable ones...& just might need to switch to washables! |
I love the quote "Emma uses the pee pads 99% of the time and the other 1% of the time is right besides them." .. How funny and cute!! :) I also use the pee pads exclusively and don't want it any other way... what a convenience time of day and weather is never an issue, potty pads are portable I keep a set at my office for days when my yorkie go to work with me. I don't use the washable type I am brand loyal to the Arm and Hammer brand they absorb odor so that is rarely an issue and the are very absorbent nothing ever leaks thru the only way the flloor will get wet is those 1% times when my Yorkie is nearer the edge than the center, but most time she goes dead center. I highly recommend potty pads forget the grass, plus you don't have the issue of picking up parasite or disease from going in the grass! p.s. My Yorkie is 7 yrs old and have been using pads since she was a puppy. She does not have accidents in the house. |
where do you get the arm & hammer brand at? the brand we're using now, doesn't leak too bad...but sometimes it gets wet underneath  i'm so happy w/her for the 99% that she hits....i don't mind the 1% misses....hehe |
I have started Yuki to use pee pads, but I use baby receiving blankets. They have cute colors/patterns..I use them in the bathroom floor. I change them everyday...So far he is using them..GOOD BOY |

Chloe will use the pee pads anywhere we go. I even put them on the floor of our SUV when traveling , and she will pee there while we are driving :). I haven't read all the replies , so sorry if I'm repeating ( and most likely am .) How about a pee pad ( or a couple) under the table and give her a treat only when she goes on that one and then slowly moving it where you want her to go. I started out with three pee pads all in different rooms , and worked my way down to one in our family room. Chloe will now run to it from anywhere in the house , and hasn't went potty anywhere else since.. ( She is always in our site so that helps , and I do also have one upstairs that she will use if she is in the kids room playing and can't get down the stairs.) I worked her down to only using one by giving her treats only when she used the one I wanted her to use , and in less than two weeks she was only using that pad. At first after she peed or pooed she got a treat and lots of praise , then I slowly slacked off on treats after a pee and now she only gets LOTS of praise when she pees but no treats . She still gets treats for pooing on the pad . To make sure she poos only on the pad I use her FAVORITE treat , and the ONLY time she gets that one is after she poos on the pad. So she poos then chases me down and runs back to show me her poo and demand her treat by barking at me LOUDLY  She knows that's the only time she gets that particular treat. Good luck :aimeeyork Chloe and :animal36 Sydney's mama |
SUCH A GOOD IDEA! I do give treats for both pee/poo...but I like the idea of making the poo a special treat or a different treat...Yuki will look at me too "hey, where's my treat" too funny.... |
Your message was sooo funny...especially the 1970 shag carpet part!! Prince's mom |
i have a boy that is 8 months and we just got a lil girl she is 3 months :D and dublin was already pee pad trained pretty well he was already had full range of the house so when i got home i took him out and while were at home he would ring the bell on the door that he had to go out. then when i got Zoie he started acting up and going whereever he wanted.....i was getting so fustereated i had a new baby and him jsut acting up. so kenal at night for both of them and they wake we up once a night to go poddy. i take them in the morning and then in the hallway while im at work with a pee pad. 2 weeks later Dublin is back to himself i think he has accepeted her!! so he has full house again and she stayes in the hallway till she know to hold it till i get home im sure it will be a while since she is so little but i think its easier this time becasue she is learning from him. the last 2 day have been really good she is only going on her pad:animal-pa i am one happy momma................good luck!!! |
territory. shes letting it be known that shes there. Sasha isnt fully potty pad trained. She knows shes supposed to go outside but at night time when she has to go she can use her potty pad or if im not home. I havent had any experience with her not using them at someones house cause i usually take her out. It really sounds like shes marking territory. Letting the other dogs know that she is there and will be for a while. |

2 out of 3 times Bender uses his pee pad. I've had really good luck with him. At my friends house (they have a yorkie too) he uses his pad, and at my brothers house (No dogs). However, at my parents house, he seems to forget. Maybe because he had peed on the carpet a few times before when he was younger? |
I recently made some washable potty pads for June. I didn't want to spend all the money for constantly buying disposable, so I bought some vinyl material, and some cotton flannel (diaper flannel). I cut the fabric into squares of 45cm and sewed them together. June was used to going potty on newspaper, so i put some newspaper on these and she uses them fine now when she is in her pen (I've only had her for three days). She obviously still has loads of accidents, but she is still very young. The pads don't leak onto the floor, they are very absorbent and her little nails don't get caught in the fabric. And I can customize them! June's pee pads are purple:D |

hahaha tha is so funny, Bailey does hte same thing . She will go potty then sit right beside me and look at me wagging her tail... i know she is saying were is my treat mommy... |
Oh, I am afraid to say this because of the wrath I may hear, but isn't it just bad manners to allow a dog who isn't housebroken to go to someone elses home? We love our babies and want to take them with us, but I equate it to this: if my daughter brought home a boyfriend that peed on my floor every time he visited, I'd ask her to not bring him around any more. |
I have 2 male yorkies, ages 6 months and 5 months. I keep my puppies in a crate attached to an exercise pen during the night and if we are not home. (for their safety). First thing in the morning I take them outside to do their busy. The rest of the day they will use their pads if unable to go outside. I keep 2 pads in the living room downstairs and 2 in a bedroom upstairs. If they poo on the pads I get a small treat. The only problem that I have had housebreaking 2 pups at the same time is I can't tell who had the accident unless I see them. But mostly they do very well. The pads are great during cold and rainy weather.:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Disposable Pee Pad - Odor Minnie is four months old and exclusively pee-pad trained. My boyfriend is an environmentalist who thinks that disposable pee pads are wasteful... and smelly. When he visits, he grimaces and complains about Minnie, and asks me why she can't use a littler box. I'm willing to switch to washable pads, but the washing machine in my apartment complex is communal, so it would be difficult to wash them daily. Can you think of a better solution? What has worked for you? How do you keep your babies' washable pads from smelling up the house? Thanks bunches! |

I fold mine in fourths (in half an half again) with the dirty side in and stack them next to my washer. It holds the smell in just fine. You could do the same only put them in a garbage bag until you get enough to do a load in the laundromat. Usually about four or so makes a load. |
We have a doggie pen that opens to large or small size. I could not live with out this pen.It folds up and is a necessity for me with my guys. When we go and visit my hubby's mum in her apt for a couple of days we put them in the pen with their pee pads and only take them out when they have gone either outside or on the pad. They still get their two walks a day too. . |
Belly band or panties for me I will not take a chance with Penny. I purchased 3 pairs of panties for Penny. They have a thing where you can attach a "sanitary napkin" but it seems to move around and irritate her, so we just have extra panties in case she wets or poops in them. So far, we just take it off and take her for a walk or make her stay on a pad after a couple of hours. We make sure we made her chase her ball or something to make her thirsty and then let her drink a bit before taking her potty. I don't know what I would do if I had to leave her with someone else. I can't help you there. We will be taking her to CA with us for Christmas and I will likely be the one on here getting advice then. |

Parlor Panties and Potty Training Aid Hi, I spray the Wee Wee pads with Simple Solution Potty Training Aid. During the day, my little Sofie does an excellent job doing her business on her pads. However, I cannot let her sleep with me because she will urinate in the bed. I would really love to know where to get the parlor panties. Thanks. |

Kaylee's Bathroom Issues My Husband is furious with our 9 month old yorkie. We've had her since Christmas and she has a good bit of accidents. At night, she sleeps in our bathroom with a puppy pad and then in the mornings/throughout the day we have one in our kitchen on the linoleum. She uses her pad in the kitchen during the day only after she eats/drinks. At night she doesn't pee or poop on her pad...but on the linoleum in the corner where our shower is. Some times she likes to go on our carpet during the day. I pick her up a ton when she starts sniffing on the carpet to take her to the puppy pad in the kitchen but she can't seem to stop going on the carpet. If she poops on the carpet..then down the hall..we'll find a small area where she's pee'd...I'm getting so upset because I love her to death but my husband's getting so frustrated that he's wanting to get rid of her. He's tired of cleaning pee all the time on the carpet.. or picking poop up. I don't know what to do, i'm trying to do the best I can...should I start buying the spray for the pad or start putting her in her box after she goes to the bathroom? |
Any Suggestions? Chip is a 2 1/2 year old male. He is indoors only because we live in the country and don't want any owls, hawks, or coyotes to get him. He has a potty pan (which he likes to pee over the side of!), but also likes to pee in front of the refrige, against the kitchen cabinets, against the washer, against the fence we put up in the service porch to contain him while we're at work, against the side of the potty pan, against the side of his bed, etc. When will he use the potty pan exclusively????? He's worse to keep up with than the kids!! How can I train him out of this? If I catch him, he hangs his head which makes me think he knows it's wrong, but what would he understand to change? Any help would be appreciated...:animal-pa |
