| Afraid of the Bell Punkin was using the same signal for potty as 'please pay attention to me' - so on a few occasions we have had a few accidents We decided to start bell training her. She is scared of it - she starts shaking when we start to take her out and she needs to ring the bell. I'm afraid that she won't want to let us know she has to go out if we keep it up. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks in advance! Alexis |

Here is what I would do. I'd put the bell away for now. If she's shaking, she's not responding well to it. When you reintroduce it, I would just pretend that it's not even there. It's just part of the furniture, no big deal, nothing to be afraid of. It should ring automatically every time you open and close the door. When she's not afraid of it, you can give it an extra jingle when you open the door to call her attention to it. But, really, that should be all you need to do. I've had several dogs now who learned to ring the bell to go outside. They all learned with the bell just hanging there and ringing naturally. I never encouraged any of them to ring it. Good luck!
