| 10 month old and still struggling with toilet training Hi all Our dog (Dexter) is 10 months old and lately he seems to be going backwards with his toilet training. To give you the setup, during the day time (we both work) he is in the kitchen and hasaccess to a catflap into the yard. For months he was really good and he was going into the yard and doing 90% of his business out there. However lately (last few months) he has started to do more and more inside. He knows he has to go out but it seems that when its cold he will noy go out and instead do it inside the kitchen. When we are home we do all the usual stuff and put him out after every meal, take him for loads of walks etc. Should i be worried that he will never grasp toilet training? what ages do yorkies stop learning stuff like this? |

| Are you physically taking him out and praising him when he goes outside or just pushing him out the door? We tend to slack off with potty training as they get older so when they slip up you take a few steps back or even start at the beginning again. Most of the time when they slip up it is actually us not them.

| unfortunately ... lots of yorkies hate inclement weather and rather not go outside even if they are otherwise trained ... if you are not home there is no correction when he does go inside the house so ... he'll decide that it is more convenient to pee and poo wherever ... you could try to re-train intensively when you have days off work and can 100% supervise ... and attach a playpen to the dog door you can leave him in when he is alone ( we have hooks on the frame of our door we could zip tie a play-yard to ) ... I the area inside is small enough he is more likely to go outside ... if you are still using potty pads ... stop ... potty pads are a blessing and a curse if you want your dog to go outside ... they are primed with pee smell to attract the dogs BUT for some dogs it is very hard to understand to keep the rest of the inside clean when there are pee smelly potty pads all around ... Also take a black light and find all pee spots you might have missed and treat them with enzymatic cleaner ... quite honestly though ... I physically had to take my girl yorkie out in snowstorms or when it rained hard... even though she was potty trained in good weather... if there was standing water on the patio ... she would find a quiet corner if we did not watch her. |

| I love this website for housebreaking. It will say the page can't be found, but if you click on Home it works! There are great tips on this site. www.housebreakingbible.com
