| Help! Housetraining issues after grooming. Hello all! Let me just say that this site is a blessing. I've learned so much just by reading all of your posts. Thank you so much. However, I haven't read any posts that deal with an issue like mine. I have a 10 month old neutered male Yorkie that currently uses puppy pads. He was neutered at 5 months of age. I took him for his first grooming about two weeks ago. The groomer gave him a sanitary clip, which eliminated his "pee pee string". He has always squatted to pee, and had not had an accident in months. Now, he pees all over himself because he has nothing "down there" to direct the flow of his urine. So, when he pees, he wets his front legs, paws, and chest. A few days ago, he started lifting his leg on his pad to pee. This past weekend, however, he has had three accidents on rugs. He even hiked his leg today and peed on his toy box. I'm not sure what has happened to my little boy. The vet has checked his urine, and he does not have a UTI. She does think that he may be experiencing some anxiety since he seems to be peeing all over himself nowadays. I don't know what to do. This is my first dog, and I'm a newbie. I can't even tell you if this is marking or urination. I can tell you that when he does do this, it is a puddle, not just a few drops. He acts like he doesn't even recognize his pads anymore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again for everything! Misty |

| Sorry, I wish I could help more, but has he every marked before? Do you have any other male dogs? Or was a big over your house? We have a marking game going on in this house.....We have major potty issues here too. Mine are not puppies. |

| Thank you for your reply. I hate to hear that you're having issues, too. My little fella is an only dog. I have no other pets indoors or outdoors. He is my first indoor dog. To my knowledge, he has never even attempted to mark, or even lift his leg, until after this whole grooming experience. I've read that they can learn to raise their leg after exposure to other dogs, but he has never even been around another dog. When she groomed him, there were no other dogs present. I just don't know what has happened to his potty training. It's like he doesn't even recognize his puppy pads anymore, and I do use the attractant spray on them. This was never an issue until he was groomed. |

| Hmmm...not completely sure of the cause, though you may not ever know, but the leg lifting may just be in his blood. The grooming experience could be the cause or it could be coincidental. Some males lift, some don't, regardless of exposure to other dogs. But regardless, if yours continues to mark, you'll want to re-do the potty training again to ensure he doesn't mark your furniture (i.e. limit access to where he goes, such as carpeted areas, take him potty more frequently etc). It's super important to prevent this from starting or he'll think it's okay.
