| At what age did your pup sleep through the night? Hi all - Just wondering how long you had to take your pup out to go potty in the night before he/she could sleep through the night? We are picking up our little guy tomorrow -- he's 12 weeks old. We want to train him to go potty outside so we'll be spending a lot of time in the backyard....and figure we'll be out there during the night for a while -- just wondering how long it took you when you got your pup? Thanks! |

| I'm not sure if I've just been incredibly lucky or what, but both of our dogs slept through the night on their first night with us. We just always took up their food about 2 hours before we were going to bed and never got them in the habit of waking up during the night to go potty. We usually only sleep for about 7 hours a night though, sometimes 8ish on the weekends. -C

| I have a 4 year old and a 2.5 year old and I rarely get to sleep through the night! I'm usually woken up between 1-5 for a potty break. I'm beginning to wonder if they just have me well trained because the the pup I'm dogsitting this week is tiny and can make it through the night no problem...

| It is the rare occasion when I have to get up with my baby in the night. The first night I got her I took her out every hour all night long, I didn't want her to start with having an accident. She didn't go once, so the next night I increased to very 2 hours, again not once did she go so the. Next night I said the heck with it I am not getting up. No accidents. I let her go out about 10 at night, she comes rightin, runs to the bed and doesn't wake me up until about 7 am, she stays in bed while I fix my coffee, I then get her up and she snuggles in my lap until about 8 when she finally decides to wake up and go pee pee. Now if we play real hard and she drinks a lot after about 8 then she will occasionally wake me up a couple hours later to pee pee. |

| My boy was 4.5 months old when I got him. I think those first few weeks I took him out late (maybe midnight), then up around 6 am or so. Just like a child, you then can stretch it to longer. I still get up around 6 or 7 am, but go to bed between 10-11 pm (sometimes even 9pm). The last thing I do is take him outside for a last pee. Very rarely, he will ask to get up in the middle of the night to poop because he was snacking too much that night or if he ate some people food that didn't agree with him. If he wakes us up, then he seriously has to go. Sometimes, he tries to move up the time we wake up to 4:30 or 5 because he wants breakfast. That doesn't happen very often, but he'll go back to sleep if I tell him no. Potty training took Columbo about two months. He knew what I wanted, he just didn't feel like cooperating. Like you, I never let him have an accident. I was on him like glue to go outside. But it wasn't until he came home from the hospital from being neutered at 6.5 months that he actually started going to the back door to ask to be taken out. | Dexter would wake up at 3 AM until he was about 6 months. Part of it was I made the mistake of keeping a water bottle in the kennel, the other was that he was training me to get up. Now, at 8 months, he can go without a break for quite a while. I don't remember the last night time accident we've had. |

| My little guy just turned 5 mths old. The last trip out at nite is about 10pm. He sleeps in my bed and when I got him at 3 mths i took him to the "pad" about 2am. Gradually he would last until 5am. I take him in the bathroom shut the door and wait a few min and he goes. We almost can make it till 6am now. But he seems also now he wants to poo too, so now it takes longer. He now can get off the bed himself so I have to stay vigilent. From what others say, he should be able to got till 6am. I am going to ignore him tomorrow morn. and see if he can hold it. |

| I don't really remember how old Geno was when he slept through the night but we didn't crate train him. If you crate train them, it helps teach them to hold it since they won't want to soil their crate. As they get older, they have better ability to hold it so they will be able to sleep through the night. So far with our little girl who is about 18 weeks, I'd let her out twice a night but now she only gets let out about once a night when she's crated.

| Thanks everyone! We have had Gronk since Friday and he's doing great. Up twice the first night, once the second, and the last two nights slept from 10pm to 5:30am! That's awesome for us as we start our day at 5:30 anyway. Fingers crossed it stays that way. We do have him sleeping in a crate at night, on our nightstand, so he's real close to us all night (we have a big nightstand and a small crate so it fits easily up there.) |

| Jackson started sleeping through the night around... 16 weeks? It was early on. The first night I let him sleep on my bed, and he slept thru the night. As they say, the rest is history!
