My boy was 4.5 months old when I got him. I think those first few weeks I took him out late (maybe midnight), then up around 6 am or so. Just like a child, you then can stretch it to longer. I still get up around 6 or 7 am, but go to bed between 10-11 pm (sometimes even 9pm). The last thing I do is take him outside for a last pee. Very rarely, he will ask to get up in the middle of the night to poop because he was snacking too much that night or if he ate some people food that didn't agree with him. If he wakes us up, then he seriously has to go. Sometimes, he tries to move up the time we wake up to 4:30 or 5 because he wants breakfast. That doesn't happen very often, but he'll go back to sleep if I tell him no.

Potty training took Columbo about two months. He knew what I wanted, he just didn't feel like cooperating. Like you, I never let him have an accident. I was on him like glue to go outside. But it wasn't until he came home from the hospital from being neutered at 6.5 months that he actually started going to the back door to ask to be taken out.
