Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Go to my Albums where you will find one titled "My First DIY Harness for Jack" Here is the link: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...?albumid=17006 Note: Photos taken before I added a loop to attach leash to. Oops! Comments/reviews welcome! Particularly let me know how I can make it better! I am starting on another harness which I will make alittle longer so that the back strap comes up about 3/4" closer to his back end.

| ![]() Hello all, i just joined this site in hopes of finding others like myself. I am the proud mama of a Brother and sister 7 month old yorkies. The Boy, Oso is 5.5 pounds and my lil one is SusieQ at 3 pounds. Guess the parents were a little on the small size. I think Oso is about 75% house trained but SusieQ seems to not have a clue. I have setup where their crate (no door on it) is like a little room for them. Their food and water dishes are next to it and then I corralled around all that which is about 3-4 feet and it has full access to the doggie door. In the night I can hear them going in and out of the doggie door. When I take them out of the caged area SusieQ will squat and pee or poo like nothing. I have seen her go out the doggie door quite a few times so what's up with that? ![]() |

| ![]() My girl will be one in a few days and we crate trained her and still use puppy pads and she never has an accident, she will sometimes knock her poo around if I'm not right there to clean it up, lol

It sounds like you have a great set-up with the doggy door. We also have a sort of play area set-up for Jack in the center of our Family Room. He has a pop-up playpen, which usually has the door unzipped so he can go in and out. It is a space we want him to be happy to be contained within so we can use it when we travel, have company over, etc. Then outside that is the play area which is corralled with furniture and gates. His crate also sits in this area and we goes in there to nap during the day. I usually close the door when he is in the crate. He is happy with the door open or closed, doesn't phase him. I am always around to let him out when he gets antsy. Then I take him "out" Right now "out" is too the garage where I have an area set up for him to potty on pads. When spring arrives we will take him outdoors to potty, so for me the idea of a doggy door seems like a dream!! Jack also sleeps pretty much through the night in his crate which we take to the bedroom with us and set on my nightstand. The other tool I am using is the umbilical cord. When he is out of the family room play space he is teethered to me. I have to watch him every minute and anticipate his potty needs to get him out to potty. Yeah, right now, I am trained, but in time we hope he will ring the poochie bells at the door, and in this way "ask" to go out to potty. LOL - right now the poochie bells scare him. It's a work in progress, and I am in for the long haul, as so many have told me that Yorkie's can take quite awhile to become reliably potty trained. (I understand that means no more than one indoor accident a month.) Well, I have been learning tons from the info on this site and getting some very good advice from members of the group and I am sure you will too! If you look under "General Yorkshire Terrier Discussion" at General Yorkshire Terrier Discussion - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community there are several threads that may be helpful, particularly a YorkieTalk Library and a Puppy Care Guide. This is also a good place to start a new thread introducing yourself and asking for advice on anything. Good Luck and welcome aboard!!

Very Nicely done Karen... Its similar to the buddy belt which I love. I have always wanted to try making one in this same design just have not had time to do so. Its the perfect size for him., tiny which is not easy to do. I would suggest not using such bulky fabric next time. You can save that for when he's much bigger. Just doubled layered cotton should be fine. Its not like he's going to break loose as long as your stitching and Velcro straps are tight enough. I use industrial Velcro, which is stronger. Also if you iron your work as you go along it makes it so much easier to handle and to get nice clean straight lines.
