I would suggest not using such bulky fabric next time. You can save that for when he's much bigger. Just doubled layered cotton should be fine. Its not like he's going to break loose as long as your stitching and Velcro straps are tight enough. I use industrial Velcro, which is stronger. Also if you iron your work as you go along it makes it so much easier to handle and to get nice clean straight lines.
Thanks Dawn! The denim was a very light variety. I was not overly fussy with it as I know it probably will only be used a few weeks and he will have grown out of it. Plus, while I was working on it I was still pondering how exactly I would do the connection. I ended up with the rectangle basically because it fit the velcro I wanted to use. I am thinking how I will tweak it on the next one. Thank you for your suggestions.
