| first night with puppy Picked up the new pup last night about 6:30pm, he shivered like a leaf for about 10mins on the ride home. Had one little pee accident in the apt, I kept taking him outside because I wasn't sure when he last ate because the breeder free feed him. Went to bed about 11pm and he cried on and off for about 15mins then nothing. Slept the WHOLE night!!! Got up about 5:30am and had to check on him and make sure he was alive because I couldn't believe he slept the entire night with no accidents in his kennel. Took him out to potty, kind of hard to tell if he went because it was dark. LOL Came back inside feed him and he ate a little, picked it up and we played for a little bit and he fell asleep. Woke up back outside and he peed and pooped. HAPPY dance with him. Could I have gotten this lucky or am I waiting for the outer shoe to fall. LOL He is very much a Velcro god. lol How to I get him interested in toys? |

Sounds like you are off to a good start! How old is he? I got Lexi at 13 weeks and she started sleeping through the night only after 2 days at home with me. He could have also just been really tired form all the excitement of coming to a new home. You will just have to wait and see tonight! Potty training can be easy if you always take them out right after nap and eating/drinking. Just make sure you use the word potty after he goes so he comes to learn the word. I always said, "good potty" and gave a treat. Accidents are okay too, because it helps them learn what NOT to do. Right after the accident I picked her up immediately, said no and took her outside and said, "go potty" even though I knew she wouldn't go. Then after coming back in I would clean up the mess. If you clean up first, by the time you take them out they will forget and not make the connection. Congrats on the new pup! | |

| Right now he is very interested in YOU! Toys will come later. He is very dependent and looks to you for everything! You are certainly off to a good start!

| He is 14 weeks. So far he's doing good. Should I be feeding him 3 times a day? Or twice? |

YT Addict | I feed three times a day to control when he pees/poops. At night I make sure he gets topped off good to make it through morning. Congrats on the new baby, great first night! How big is he? Does he have a name yet? |

| I actually don't use a brush on Lexi, I use a comb. I bought a brush when I got her, but just seemed too big to brush her with so I grabbed my husbands comb and have been using it ever since and it works great! |

| We use a wooden pin brush mist of the time. Seems to glide through their hair. Many folks here like the Madan brushes and some YT people sell them. Sometimes the type of brush is dependent upon the type of hair the Yorkie has.

| Thanks for all the great info. 2nd night went just as good, so far no accidents in the kennel or apt. Today I pick up my 9 year old daughter and she is soooo excited to see Harley. Even though she did pick him out. Plus I could use a little break hahahaha |

| Congrats on your new lil boy Harley. Happy to hear you are off to a good start with potty training. Your daughter is going to be ecstatic when she this lil boy is finally hers. Children have so much patience when it comes to helping in the training, sit, stay, lay down and brushing. My adopted boy was gotten for a little 8 y/o girl. She trained this dog. Due to financial issues they had to surrender the dog at age 2 1/2 years old. Start command training now, while he is young, have your daughter involved in this, she will love it. You are a great dad to take on the responsibility of a puppy for the pleasure of your daughters visits.Good luck and please keep us updated on Harley's progress, we love puppy stories.

| Oh she loves playing with Harley, Harley not sure lol. He keeps wanting me. I told my daughter that I have been the only one he has known for the last 2 days. It will take him a little bit to get use to you. I use to train GSD for the police dept and my daughter has 3 dogs at her moms house. So the plan today is, bath, brushing and playing. Wish me LUCK!! LOL |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Congrats on your new addition! In terms of toy drive, and building I start right away. I usually either sit on the ground or on a low stool, and start playing with the toy myself, usually the puppy will come over to investigate, and then away you go. I like to switch up different actions, such as a long wiggly toy they can follow across the room, or a tug toy, roll a ball on the ground, with a big ball they can push their noses into the ball and it rolls itself. Try a Frisbee and spin it or slide it on its side along the floor. As a puppy I might just leave one toy on the floor for them, the toys come out when I want to play/interact with them. As your puppy ages a bit, find that toy is a romping good game of fun. Enjoy your day
