| 1 year old just started HATING her crate! I adopted my yorkie about 4 months ago when she was already 8 months old. The family couldnt keep her anymore. She was not trained at all! We started from scratch, and now, she's amazing, has come a long way. She is potty and crate trained with only a few accidents, isnt afraid of the car anymore, is on a great diet, she socialized fine, is extremely loving and friendly, she is confident and assured, but it seems, she suddenly and for no apparant reason decided she HATES her crate! She just suddenly started destroying it, and everything in it. She gets so covered in lint and shreds from her puppy pad, that the water she dumped creates a kind of 'glue' that is just impossible to remove from her hair! She gets herself so worked up that she vomits in there. Now I do not believe this is separation anxiety, because when we leave her alone in the house she is perfect. I really believe she just does not want to be in that crate. And she's not in there for long periods. Last night it was only 2 hours, and if it is longer, my neighbor goes over to take her out, walk her and make sure she's ok. Does anyone have any experience with this? I hate to give in to her, but Im tired of cleaning up this disaster! |

| Bentley has just started to develop this. He's just 5.5 months old, but ever since he was sick and had diarrhea in his crate, he just doesn't want to spend the night in it. He might go in there and spend a couple of hours during the day, but at night we have to take him out and put him in his day bed that we keep in the family room (we keep him in the kitchen). What I had been doing, in order to get a good night's sleep, was taking him out of his crate, putting a leash on him, taking him to the family room and putting him on his day bed. I then hooked the leash around my ankle and slept on the couch. Last night I needed my bed too much, so I brought his day bed into the kitchen, put the leash on him, attached it to something stationary, and let him sleep in the day bed. He slept until 6:30am. |

| Well I decided to give her a chance to stay outside of her crate while I was away....miraculously she was fine...used the puppy pads like she is supposed to and didn't destroy a thing....stubborn girl! |

| Strangely enough - our Harry did exactly the same thing just as he was turning 1 year old, he worked himself up into such a state every time, scratching like crazy on it's floor and destroying everything in it.... So we did the same as you're trying....he was totally house-trained and was past the chewing stage, so we gave him the run of the house (we were so, so anxious about doing that, but we made the periods of time gradually longer) and, thank goodness, we've never ever had a problem.... I truly hope things continue to work well for you...and that's she's still being a good little girl!
