| Going back to kennel? I have a 5 year old yorkie that I adopted when he was 1. He came super spoiled and like a baby. I have only kept this going and probably made it worse-- he's like my child. Over a year ago I got a puppy who stays in his kennel all day while I'm at work. However, my older one has never been in a kennel and would be so depressed, upset, may even give himself a heart attack kind of scenario. I want to put him in a kennel because when I thought he wasn't pottying in the house, he really has been. The problem comes that he hasn't been in a kennel ever and I am gone upwards of 12 hours a day...don't judge--- nature of my job. Should I just put puppy pads everywhere or kennel him and spend my days worrying about him? I hate to make him feel punished, upset, etc.

| I would put him in an x-pen with pee pads, his bed, toys and his food and water.....he may appreciate a 4 x 4 x-pen better than a kennel if he has never been confined to one before. Then you can gradually work on crate/kennel training him, slow and easy....or you can also use baby gates and confine him to an area of the house, like just the den, or just the kitchen, or a bathroom, etc. |

| If you are gone upwards 12 hours a day, both dogs need potty access. Holding it for 12 hours is not healthy for the kidneys/renal system, often the first thing to fail in senior dogs. Don't wallpaper your home with piddle pads. Too many targets will likely create confusion. I would use an xpen or baby gates to contain your dogs in one room with a piddle pad. The extra room will also make both of your dogs happier.
