I would put him in an x-pen with pee pads, his bed, toys and his food and water.....he may appreciate a 4 x 4 x-pen better than a kennel if he has never been confined to one before. Then you can gradually work on crate/kennel training him, slow and easy....or you can also use baby gates and confine him to an area of the house, like just the den, or just the kitchen, or a bathroom, etc.
