| Yorkie barking and nipping My yorkie has a habit of wanting to bite the legs and tails of dogs who walk past him. When he does this he barks like if he's really mad. Next week, I'll be watching a friend's doxie who is very social and friendly for 3 days. I would love to try to see if they can interact but I am afraid my yorkie will bite and leave teeth marks (and emotional scars) on the doxie since the doxie is smooth and has no fur. Not sure if my yorkie has good bite inhibition, he never has bitten us. I can't figure out why he's so mad and wants to bite like that. To me it looks like he's fearful since he attacks when dogs move away. I have a big stuffed dog that looks real that I get out sometimes and he'll do the same, attack it when I move it, and the other day he grabbed the tail and pulled, if he does this to a real dog I am afraid it might hurt. Do yorkies play this way or is it aggression? Oddly my yorkie's tail wags as he nips and barks mad. I am guessing tail wags are not only friendly. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! In general, I try to stop anything my Yorkies do that I don't like, or think will get them in trouble down the line. Just a sharp 'Ah, ah' to get his attention, then redirect him to something he can bite on.Teach him to play 'Easy' and to 'Play nice'. Reward him with praise and treats when he gets it right. Yorkies love to please, the hard part is getting them to know what you like, and to repeat those behaviors.

| Worse case scenario do you think a Yorkie can break skin to another dog? That's my biggest fear and I feel responsible for preventing harm in the dog I am watching. I know you can train to play nice but a fight can happen so quickly and those bites are so fast and the doxie may get defensive if it feels pain and soon you have two dogs fighting! I have always owned large dogs so was very careful in dog to dog interactions and maybe this makes me over cautions. |

| Hello, I have a 4 month old puppy who is doing the same thing, I have talked to a trainer and she suggested that Bentley needs to learn how to interact with other dogs, so I am taking him to small dog daycare. There he can learn what is appropriate in a safe environment, the older small dogs will put him in his place without the worry of him being hurt plus he will interact with lots of different dogs. We always had German Shepards all our lives and he is our first small dog and let me tell you lol it's a totally different experience. |
