Donating YT 500 Club Member | Question about sensitive paws So Alfie loves a belly rub and I have always tried to desensitise him by stroking him all over, ears, muzzle, paws. In the last few months when he is relaxed and going to sleep or when he has just woken up, he goes nutty if I touch his paws, mostly the back paws but sometimes his front paws too. He grizzles and growl / barks and makes like he is going to bite (he will put his teeth on my hand like he is going to bite but doesn't follow through) I will be working on teaching him this is not acceptable) At other times if I am brushing him or just checking him over he will let me touch his paws no problem. He does not have any cuts, raw patches, even with his allergies he doesn't bite or lick his paws. His nails have never been cut but I always get my vet to check them and call into The groomers to have them checked and they always say his nails are just fine, he gets plenty of exercise so they seem to take care of themselves. Does anyone else's Yorkie hate their paws messed with sometimes?

| It must be an Alfie thing. Lol my little Alfie used to hate having his paws touched, he would never bite but he did mouth at you a sound a little aggressive , especially if he was having them dried with a towel. He is a lot better with it now , he just learned that good things happen if you don't bite the towel.

| My boys don't really like having their paws touched. Their front paws seem to be more sensitive. Max hates when I trim the hair around his front pads. When we are snuggling, if I touch their pads, they often pull their foot away. It's good that you checked to make sure Alfie's paws are okay. I think it is just a sensitivity.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks Julie and Kristin. I feel much better now I was starting to worry he had something I just can't see but I check him over pretty good regulatly.

| Or is it just because he's a bit sleepy, either going to sleep or just waking... seems he's okay when he's fully awake?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It is generally when he is sleepy but just gets ratty about his tootsies getting rubbed, he still loves getting stroked everywhere else, he will move other parts of himself under my hand sometimes if I stop.

| Peek A Boo was horrible if he was ever accidently awakened... I could never break him of it so I had to change my own behavior, lol. I just made sure to wake him gently when I needed him up, usually by talking to him first before sacrificing my hands. Once awake, he was always fine. Then again, if he was laying on the recliner with DH, he always bit at him whenever he tried to get up, lol. Let sleeping dogs lie. Haha.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I like Kathy's sleepy theory. Jillie normally loves being petted on her belly but when I wake her up to do it she often runs away in a huff.
