| Help! Need some advise on pee pads PLEASE!!! Good evening everyone. I am new to the Yorkie world and I'm in the process on training a 4 1/2 mth old teacup yorkie to pee pee poo on the pad. As I live in the city and I really want her to be indoor trained. QUESTION: She made 2 pees and one poo on the pad today. Should I REPLACE the pad RIGHT AWAY, or should I leave it there for a day so that she remembers that's where she goes??????? Thank you so much for your help |

| Welcome to YT! I would leave it there a little longer to make it clear that this is her place to go potty. But, don't let it get too many little spots on it or she won't want to walk on it and she'll start going on the very edge of the pad or on the floor next to it. With a potty treat and a potty party every time she uses the pad she'll be 100% in no time.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I have to change my pretty fast, they don't like soiled pads and will find another spot to go in if I don't.

| They need to smell their own scent and will relate to that is the right place to go. I change mine every 4 or 5 days and try and leave some poo so they know but pick up some too. I have a tiny too. Takes time and patience. But my Zoey has really come around these past few weeks and she is 6 months. My baby really did the turnaround when I started rewarding her and praising her , trainers say use that higher pitch happy voice, they just wiggle trying to please you. But watch her every move and walk over and guide her a little saying pee pee on pads or potty on pads when you see her start getting sniffy or walking in circles.... We live where it's cold and Zoey is bell trained so sometimes she rings bell and looks at me and if it's too dark I say nooooo, go pee pee on pads and she will go right to them . Be patient and diligent , it's so well worth it, you will be rewarded, they just want to please you. Good luck |

| My Bella will pee on the pad about 4 times before she gets leery and wants it changed. Their poop really really stinks, so you can remove it from the pad with a paper towel and discard it. There will still be some scent remaining on the pad. I end up changing Bella's pad at least once a day, sometimes twice, because she drinks and pees a lot. She weighs about 4 pounds and is 10 months old... |

| A pad holder is also helpful. It holds the pad in place from playful puppies and creates an actual border for them to step over, so the area is more easily defined.

| I use a pad holder and I change it once a day, Morning. poops I pick up with paper and flush. 21/2 years of perfect potty using here, use baby carrots as a reward when Im home, make a big deal out of it. My pierre will stomp his feet like a bull where ever I am in the house to let me know he did a poop and where is his carrot

| Thank you so much everyone. So far, it's not too bad. Still pooing next to her pad and sometimes in the tv room :-(. But we will keep going until she learns. Hopefully it won't be too long. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | In the wild, dogs don't pee and poop in the same place, so some people have found it necessary to use two pads, one for pee and one for poop. Whatever works, I say!

| My yorkie girl is 15 weeks old now, and she is -almost- fully potty trained. You know what helped me a lot? The Japanese. Yeah, that sounds really funny if you think about it but they have this whole effective method of indoor training dogs ( even big ones like labs ) because most people in Japan don't have homes with a garden/yard. They use a different style of crate training than we do in the west, and let me tell you its effective. What you do, is get a square pen, or a xlarge crate and put your yorkies bed on one end, and a pee pad tray on the other end. You keep this in the same spot as they are adults and they learn this is where they potty. Here is some video links to show you what I mean, also DONT CARRY the dog to the potty area, play with them and lead them to the potty area, if you constantly pick them up and plop them down they will learn that unless you're there to always pick them up and stick them on the spot when you arent there to do that they pee anywhere because they havent learned the footsteps to their potty place. Plus they are enclosed so cant go pee anywhere else. As they get more familiar with their comfort zone and pee area they can be let out by the little door and roam around the room and they will keep going back into the pen on their potty spot. Eventually the bed comes out, so they have house freedom but the tray always stays. Very simple and effective! Much nicer than keeping them crated all day. You don't have to be able to understand what they are saying, just watch the two videos and what they do as an example! The first video is for training to go in the confine area to the designated spot. Second video is for outside of the enclosed area and leading them to the pad. | potty training two yorkies We got 2 biewer yorkies (9 & 11 pounds) when they were 8 mos. from a reputable breeder who knew we love larger yorkies. ( Our last one was 18 pounds and every bit of him a yorkie.) The new pups still have accidents. One in particular doesn't bother with the pad, the other one does. Is there any difference training two puppies at this age? |

| The first suggestion I have for you is patience. My puppy is a year old and just when I think he is fully trained he has an accident. He will pee on the corner of the pad if it is too dirty or poo behind the couch. I need to change the pad twice a day. I also use adult washable pads. My puppy would destroy the disposable pads. I think I also have been lacks on the treats because he has been doing so good at the training. Good luck. |
