How long should I leave my Yorkie in a crate. I just got Boomer Saturday. He's two months old, which I did have reservations about him being so young. I work from 6:00 am till 2:30 pm. I left him in the crate today, but I really think that 8 hours is too long. We have no neighbors that would come check on him, and there and there are no dog day cares that I'm aware of in my town. Should I leave him in the bathroom when I'm at work until he gets older?

| Small dogs, especially one Boomer's age, needs potty breaks more often. 8 hours is too long to go without. If you leave him in the bathroom with a piddle pad, make sure the toilet lid is down, and ideally put a baby lock on it. I would also look into disposable piddle pads which dogs are less likely to chew.

Also at that age, food and water need to be continuously available while you are away so yes, use the bathroom (be sure it is Yorkie-proofed for safety) and put down potty pads. An x-pen with a small bed area, food, water, and potty pad is another alternative.

When we go out of town (an hour away) we put our puppy in an x-pen with a puppy pad, food, water and toys. I don't want to risk him chewing on the cabinets and door in the bathroom. You can find the pens on eBay for pretty cheap. That's where I got mine and I love it. And so does Brody.

I prefer an x-pen. I lay a vinyl tablecloth down for the floor, then add potty pads, beds, food, water and toys. Much happier life for your baby while you're gone.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I had to leave him in the bathroom today. We do have a pack n play, but my niece currently uses it. I am looking into an x-pen.
