Small dogs, especially one Boomer's age, needs potty breaks more often. 8 hours is too long to go without. If you leave him in the bathroom with a piddle pad, make sure the toilet lid is down, and ideally put a baby lock on it. I would also look into disposable piddle pads which dogs are less likely to chew.
