| Jackie in heat - housebreaking gone bad Well ... I must admit I haven't been here for a while, but now I'm facing a problem. Jackie, my female yorkie, is in heat for quite a while now, her cycle is finally ending. She's in heat for the first time and she was acting a bit weird, but i expected that. She was sick for quite a while now and she haven't been out for some time now so she had to pee and go potty inside (which she is used to, she does it all on the pee-pad). When in heat she peed practicaly everywhere, but that wasn't such of a problem, i was kinda prepared for that. But i wasn't prepared for the pooping part - today she went pooping on the couch. I was kinda shocked, because just a few minutes ago i told her to go pee on her pee-pad and she did ... but just like that she went on the couch and took a potty. I just want to ask you if this is normal for a yorkie in heat? I know that the peeing part is normal because she is marking, but pooping? And i would be happy for any advice on how to get things back on track. I'm doing the praising and rewarding part, but any additional info would be really helpful. Thank you!

| I don't know if that is common, but I would take her to the vet sooner rather than later in case she has pyometra. Can you tell if she has been running a fever? Any purulent discharge from the vulva? Look up pyometra because it is life threatening if she does have it. That is about all I know of unspayed females, but I understand it is much more common than many people think. The reason I thought of this is because many times bowel habits will change when they are sick. Good luck & post updates when you can! Pyometra | AKC Canine Health Foundation

I'm going to take her on a regular check-up soon so I'm going to mention this to the vet, thank you. But i did check the symptoms and she has none of them. She eats just fine, she is not vomiting, she drinks normally ... I hope that's not the case and that she's just marking stuff.
