| Leash Training Help~! I got my puppy Toby last week and I just barely started putting his collar on him. He doesn't seem to like it.. He keeps on itching it and trying to get it off him... He goes crazier though when I put the leash on. And if I try to walk him with the leash on he wont move.. Unless I have a treat with me. But after he gets the treat, he'll stop and won't move again. I find it frustrating as I really want to start trying to go on little walks with him. Can anyone help me with this? He is about 11 weeks old now btw. |

When I first got Clyde I put a leash on him and a harness and just had him in the house with me. I wasn't trying to walk around with him, but I just wanted him to get used to the feeling of wearing the harness & leash. I started playing around the house with him while he was wearing the harness & leash and after awhile he sort of forgot it was there. After that I took him outside and I started trying to walk him. At first he would just stop and wouldn't move.... so I just set down his leash and walked away from him. He started following me and I immediately picked up the leash and praised him. After a couple of times he seemed to get the hang out if it and would let me hold his leash while we walked. It took about a week to stop the tugging after that, but he is leashed trained now. Fortunately I live in an area where it was OKAY to set the leash down and walk away from him ... If you don't have access to such an area I would recommend you take the advice of someone else LOL I did the same thing with Dexter. Worked Both times like a charm. Well... I hope that I helped in some way. That is just what I did =P Keep in mind your puppy should have all his or her shots before going into public places and such =) | |

| Welcome to YT I would use the collar for tags and a harness for walking. Your baby is still young so it's normal for him not to like it, just put it on him a little everyday and give him treats and he'll love going on walks before you know it Haha I remember when mine was that age, he would have a FIT when I put his harness on, and now you can't even tell Oh and Toby is a cutie! | Thank you for the response! I've read about the collapsed tracheas and stuff.. I was considering harness but I bought a collar first thinking that he needs to get used to the collar first before getting a harness. I did put the leash on him and let him run around but once he sees the leash, he'd try to just bite the leash and he'd go crazy on that poor leash. I'll try to buy the harness by today though. I'll try to get him used to it. I'm not sure about rules around here for dogs and leashes. I have to find out. XD Yep, I've only let him out in the backyard. I'm still waiting for his last shot. I cannot wait for the day that he gets it though so I can start walking him outside. (And showing him off, of course. XD AND start obedience classes.) Thank you guys for the help! I hope he'll get used to it soon! |

| P.S. I dont know why but he won't do number 2 if he's on the leash. He does it when he's off leash though. And very minimal number 1.. Is it normal cause he's not used to having his leash on? |

Remember to shower him with praise whenever he does what you want him to do.
