NEED HELP Housetraining-- He's threatening to Make Me get rid of him

It has a very mild smell. It does not stink up the room when spraying it or anything. If you smell where you sprayed it, you can smell it.

Ours is a cross yorki and s**tzu born 29 july 2012. was trained to go on pads but lately seems to forget now and then. we regularly take outside first thing in am, after feeding, various times if the day and just before shut down and sleep. We have noticed that she is constantly wanting to nip and bite fingers noses whatever. full of energy plays by herself. has attached herself to wife and now i'm #2 - no problem there. What can we do do stop the constant biting and nipping. Fearful it might continue with age. It is now 14 weeks old, wife wanted a lap dog but not one that is constantly trying to jump up and bite face or nose. What should one do.. Secondly when would expect baby teeyth to come out and be replaced with adult ones. Tks. Dave.

Teeth over the next few months unless retained then they can be removed during spay/neuter.

Stop all play when nipping happens offer a toy teach you dog to hold a toy and to chew that, I'm a firm beleiver in doggy time out.

Dogs are like toddlers after 3 minutes of time out they've forgotten why they are there and if its not perfectly clear why they are there its not effective.

I've never met a puppy personally that didn't nip or chew until taught not to.

I'm happy you decided to sign up for obedience classes! That will really help improve Bentley's behavior if you find a good trainer.

Just out of curiosity, is Bentley neutered? When Clyde was neutered he had an OVERWHELMING urge to mark everything. No matter how often I took him potty he always had more to pee. However, once I had him neutered that desire in him slowly ceased to exist. It really helped with completely potty training, and now Clyde only has accidents on the very rarest of occasions.

If Bentley is neutered I am sure that the obedience classes will help, but if he is not you might want to look into that!

I have read all the messages and I still don't know what to do. My 5.month old Yorkie,Grace, has been the most stubborn, sneaky, vindictive puppy I have ever owned. She is very intelligent and was pra,ctically potty pad trained by 3 months, then did an about face and started going everywhere. The pee part is pretty much under control, but the pooping is driving me to distraction. She will poop anywhere. Last week on the couch, then above my head on my bed where she sleeps, then on a chair beside my bed, not to mention every other place in the house. I can never catch her in the act, only the results. She will poop and pee in front of my great-granddaughters room when my daughter closes her door. She even pooped in her kennel while she was in it. I am so frustrated, I am ready to give her up though she is a wonderful companion for me. She sleeps by my side through the night. I am confined to a hospital bed in my daughter's living room temporarily and she has so much love to give and it is returned, so does anyone have any suggestions? I am desperate!

I have JoJo and I trained him on pee pee pads. Now I put a pee pee pad outside and he goes out there. Once in awhile I find an accident . I do notice when he and Spud have too much unsupervised freedom they take advantage when mom is not looking and lift a leg. So I fence them off in the kitchen area when I am not there to keep an eye on them. Yorkies can be tricky to train. I still do not trust my dogs and do not allow them on the couch or chairs when I am gone. My house has a tv tray on each chair so they do not jump up there and pee. All for the love of a Yorkie!

You are going to have to observe her for WHEN she has poop breaks...usually when getting up, after meals, etc. You must know when she has the proclivity to relieve herself. She is wondering off tooo much, unsupervised, to areas where she can do this unseen...that has to stop! She can not be allowed to be anywhere in the house unsupervised. Youhave to be watching her continously, so you see when she is about to poop, and not just find the evidence! Yorkies are very stubborn and it is a game with them....you have to be more tenacious and persistant than they are! She has it in her mind she has you beat at this game....and she does! She must be taken out at specific, consistant times during the day, like 4 hour intervals, and given tons of praise and treats when she does her business outside. I would keep her butt up in that bed with me and every 4 hours, have someone take her outside and command her to potty.....let her get a drink of water and a bite to eat, under supervision, when they take her out of your bed, then go outside to TT/poopoo.....then it is back up in bed with you!...I actually tell mine "TT" then "poo-poo" and they know the difference, and will first tinkle then go poop. I then act like an idiot with glee and excitement and give them a treatr they absolutely love...a couple of pieces of vienna sausage! They would actually prostitute themselves for Vienna sausage! (it is actually the Gerber "chicken sticks" for toddlers, that come in a jar and look like vienna sausage)....

Dogs are not sneaky or vindictive. What she has learned is to not go potty in front of you and that she gets scolded if she does. You need to supervise her and keep her with you at all times. Take her to her potty spot and treat and praise her like crazy when she goes where you want her to go. Don't yell at her if she starts to potty in the wrong places, calmly say "uh oh" or "no no" and pick her up and bring her to the correct place.

FIrst of all I just want to say eww . . . Really? With pooing on the furniture and on your bed. She is definatly trying to tell you something and to get someones attention. Please read my training tips on how to teach your dog to alert you when it's potty time... it's not too late to teach her this method. But it will take more than just yourself to accomplish it and it works !!!

I would also suggest trying Umbilical Cord training with her. Especially if she's running off and doing her business where she cant be seen. You have to watch her like a hawk !! This training allows you to have her in your sights at all times and doesn't give her the opportunity to run off after a nap, meal or play time and go potty in the house. She'll be right there by your side for you to get her out side to go. Than praise and treat her with a Cheerio or something small that wont make her too full or spoil her meals. Umbilical cord training works great for all types of training. Even to show her her boundaries in the house and out in the yard.

Also, schedule her trips out to potty to coincide with her with her feeding and naps. Dogs take a while to do their business it dont matter if its hot, cold, rain, snow or shine. You cant just expect them to go out and right back in and if they do that usually means that they didn't go poo. They may pee sudden but to poo they have to be in the right place at the right time with the right scent. Usually when they smell theirs or another dogs scent is when they will go. So cleaning the areas in your home that she has gone pee or poo will definitely Help. Than start fresh.... get into the habit of taking her out after she wakes from a nap, after her meals (free feeding would not be a good idea) and after she has been playing or resting. You cant do this alone in your situation. You are going to need help form other family member if you going to get her trained.
