| We WERE trained... What is going on!? Dexter is almost nine months old now. We potty trained him using the book Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days. It was all good until a few days ago- he has been peeing EVERYWHERE! When I say everywhere I mean ALL OVER THE FREAKING HOUSE! Tile, laminate, rugs, the throw blanket on the couch- EVERYWHERE. I had to buy a new bottle of cleaner. His pen is open with the pee pad inside (he will use it when he's locked up during the day, but not when I'm home) but he won't use it. I even bought that spray that's supposed to make them eliminate where you spray it. Not Dexter- he goes on the other side of the house. He will signal when he wants out- I take him out; 15 minutes later he won't go. 2 minutes after we come in? He's gone on the floor. I feel SO stuck. I don't want to go back to the strict schedule again but I'm not sure what else to do. Help me!!!! |

YT 2000 Club Member | This sounds like my Spud and JoJo. I don't know which Yorkie is doing this. I don't know why I find blankets in the dog bed peed on. Today the rug outside was hit. I wonder if I trained them to go on the pee pee pads and now anything soft they will use to pee on. I am going to get a belly band for these boys if they don't stop marking up my stuff! I guess that is why God made them so cute so we will not get too mad at them! |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I would start from the beginning again. I thiniftar book talks about if the pup pees where he shouldn't. Do you have a xpen? Or block him off from having the run of the house. |

| I was hoping there was some other solution. He is sooooo vocal and keeping him in the pen while we're home is torture. The pen I have for him is this one: Shop for this IRIS Indoor/Outdoor Pet Pen in white and more dog pens at Walmart.com. Save money. Live better. He has a crate, too- he sleeps in it. |

| I'd get him checked out for a UTI just to be safe & then just start over from the start with him. Clean all those places he's marked with the special cleaner and bar him from those rooms or areas for a good long while or physically watch him every moment so he can't return to those areas. If he's not ill and can't help it, then for some reason, he's gotten it in his head it is good to to in those spots and that's right in his head. So, block him from those places with large cardboard boxes, fences, whatever & start over with his training. I take mine out every 15 - 30 mins. until they "go" when I am first training for at least a whole month and then watch them like hawks if they don't go. Inside, I watch for interested sniffing or looking around or even the beginning of a pee stance and out we go if I see it. Eventually, this works. They go outside, they get a lovely treat and praised silly and a lot of celebrating and then back in the house, watched constantly until crated if I have to leave the room, even for 5 seconds. It's hard to keep up but being taken to their "potty" spot outside that frequently they eventually get the idea. If you are using pee pads, take the dog just as frequently to the potty pad until he "goes", treat, praise and watch, watch, watch or crate when you can't watch. If he yowls a lot in the crate, be sure his time in there is limited to just short periods and throw in some treats before putting him in and from time to time while he's in there, along with kong toys filled with goodies, toys he can chew on or keep busy with, etc., until he begins to accept that during this time, he should eventually just relax & accept this is what he must do at times. Most dogs, given enough maturity, will relax & accept the crate if you don't keep popping in and looking at them or telling them to be quiet, feeding their excitement by doing that. Some begin to enjoy the crate as their safe, private den if they know when you are home they won't be isolated there for a long time and are taken outside or to the potty pad as soon as let out, given a little treat for being in there when let out and praised for being good. A good, regular feeding and exercise schedule with frequent potty breaks is your best bet when housetraining, too. That way you come to anticipate when your dog is going to need to "go" and can be anticipating it.

YT 2000 Club Member | It is very frustrating to take a Yorkie outside, wait awhile, he doesn't pee and then go inside and he cocks up that furry leg and pees on something! I have been putting my boys in the kitchen tile area where they have a dog door to the outside. I took away the dog crates. They would pee on the pad in there. No accidents so far. I have to really watch them when they are allowed in the living room. It is marking, not just peeing. My deal is if you mark it you lose it. Happy days ahead if we get these boys to stop using out stuff for their business. |

| Is this a marking behavior maybe? He is at the age where he has become sexually mature and some dogs decide they need to mark their territory at that point. You might want to consider neutering if you haven't already. Gracie went off training a couple of times during her first year but it was always when there was something different going on in the household. I would start watching her closely and reward her with a treat when she got it right. She would go right back to being good again within a couple of days. You might try taking your little guy for a walk a few times a day. If he is marking it will encourage him to do it outside. You need to catch him in the act when he does it inside and make sure he knows that it means a good "NO!" Then take him to the right place. |

YT 2000 Club Member | My JoJo is neutered and so is Spud. Perhaps they are marking off their territory. They pee on the pad in their crate and I put a cute rug outside and every time I lay that thing down one of them pees on that. They do not poop inside at all. That is squared away but this pee thing is annoying. If I could catch one in the act I could scold him but so far they must sneak pee. If I am looking they know better! |
