| 8 week old YT Hello everyone, Monday (12-12-2005) me and my gf got our first YT, Emma. She was exactly 2 months old when we got her. Well now for my questions: 1) Since it winter, and she's little, we want to train her to go inside. When she squats to go we clap and say no, then pick her up and take her to her pee-pee pad (in our bathroom is that a bad place?) but she just smells for a second, and latelly, just walking off. Although last night she did go for the first time on it, and we praised her. But i just wanted to know if we are doing it right...do we wait until after she pees/poops or right before she squats? We know when she has to go b/c she will stop playing and sniff franticly. I hope we are not scaring her b/c we never yell or anything, but it seems she is trying to run beside the couch or away from us to do it. 2) How long should we wait to start training like "sit" "lay" "stay" commands? 3) We got her puppie treats but she just smells them and walks away. So i think tonight i am going to try Cherios or some cereal (i read some ppl on here used them) 4) Should we put her food bowl/watter bowl by the pee pee pad? Currently they are both in our bathroom *which is about 4ft wide and about 12ft deep* and the dishes are on one side and the peepee pad is on the other side just a little bit diagonal from each other. Thanks everyone, sorry for all the question but we are both brand new to this and we want our little Emma to be as perfect as can be! Cody |

With Nathan , I have a pee pad in every rooms . 2) A yorkie can start to learn the command at 8 weeks old . You'll have to be patient and give treats . I never place the food bowl and water near the pee pad .

| Thanks Diego, yeah I think I am going to move the dishes back into the kitchen, whichs is like 10ft from where they are now (I live in an appartment 820sqft) So try putting a pad in the living room, and bed room along w/the bathroom? When she goes use the bathroom wan primaraly? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Just my experience, Cali is the first dog that I have inside trained out of 5 dogs and I love it. I used the Jump Start wee wee pads at Petsmart, they were more expensive 50 for 28.00 but Cali trained so fast on them. They have some gurantee on them to work. Cali used the pads about 80% of the time at 9 weeks. After a few weeks she was 99% trained on the pads. I keep one in her play pen which is in my bedroom, where she can access it from the front and one in teh other end of the house.

also the people where we bought Emma told us to keep her "cage" small so that she will learn to hold her pee so when she gets up she will go to the potty. Is that a good thing to do? Also lets say Emma goes in the living room, do we let her finish, then say no and carry her in? or do we stop her mid way, say no, then take her to the pee-pee pad and tell her to use it?

| I say interrupt her Yes, stop her, put her on her pee pad, and say something everytime like maybe "go potty" for instance. And if she DOES finish up on the pad, make sure to praise big time, and I would treat, though others don't think treating is a good idea. I just know I have gotten great results from clicker-treat training. Wosie is 6 months and she has few accidents now. I use treats, though not all the time. Good luck!! This is definitely one of those things that takes a lot of time, patience, and consistancy.
