| Does any else yorkie get grumpy when he's sleepy? Ever since Columbo was a puppy, he has turned into a different dog when he's sleepy. At night, when we are winding down, usually watching tv, he is in his bed. When we wake him up and go to pick him up to take him upstairs to bed, he becomes a completely different dog and sometimes snaps, sometimes dives over to "protect" his bones, just acts like a lunatic. He turns into who we call "Bobohyde", because he's just crazy! After a few seconds when he is more awake, he give kisses and sort of asks for forgiveness. Like "I'm sorry mommy, I didn't mean to do that, I just can't help myself". He's obviously groggy when he's like that and it's something he doesn't have any control over. He's now almost nine and we notice he sleeps a bit more (although he's always been a couch potato) and sleeps deeper, so the Bobohyde behavior is getting worse as he ages. Is this a yorkie behavior or is my dog just a little weirdo? Last edited by bobohyde; 09-20-2012 at 03:21 PM. |

| It might be unique to just Columbo. Kaji turns into a drunk in the same situation. He wants to focus on you so bad but he just can't. I swear, he'd fail a sobriety test when half asleep. He stumbles, can't walk in a straight line, or hold his head still.

| First I must say I love that Columbo has an alter ego Bobohyde that is so cute! I think Georgie is combo of grouchy and drunk. At about age 3 something happened to Georgie and he decided he would growl when he was tired and if anyone disturbed his sleep He also gives you the glazed over look and can't focus on you like Kaji LOL

| grumpy sleepy dog You are not alone, mine is a grouch if sleepy too. I guess that is where the saying "let sleeping dogs lie" comes from. LOL. BTW, I confess I am not too happy when first awoken. |

| Oh yes, Peek A Boo will try to dismember my hands! I try to make some kind of noise and talk to him loudly so that he is awake, then I'll pet him before I reach in to pick him up. I call it the 'Night Terrier Terrors', Lol!

| I have never heard of this phenomenon but it is good to know. I've had a lot of dogs through here with rescue, my own, my family members when I dogsat, etc., and have never personally observed it but it does sound like this might be what started the old "sleeping dogs" saying as "dottiesyrky" said. I know that ever since I've had Tibbe, when he finally settles on the pillow beside me to go to sleep, gives his big sigh and starts to let go, he often start growling. But if I reach & turn his head around to look in his face or lean over him, he isn't grouchy or snappy. He just well very often growl as he goes off to sleep and has since Day 1 in this house. These little guys sure keep it interesting trying to figure them out.

| All three of mine. They will go away to their kennel to be undisturbed but if they fall asleep elsewhere they moan at bed time Scoobers is so silly he nakes the weirdest whine bark growl sounds like Chewbaca from star wars...Princess glares escapes grasp and stomps off to bed herself, Elvis shows one canine tooth and does this limp dead weight thing. Elvis would snap for a long time if woken and do this snarling growl, but I could literally put my fingers in his mouth its all show.

| When Max is half asleep, he doesn't even attempt to fight it, he'll go to sleep wherever he is. Unless I'm close by... then he'll muster up the strength to crawl to me and fall asleep on me, which forces me to carry him to bed. (Well it's not really force lol)
