| Oh No! I've Abused My Dog I feel so bad We have a little barking problem with one of my dogs ... Zach He gets into these barking jags in the middle of the night and wakes up the whole house I had gotten it down to a minimum but he'll still bark if he hears a strange sound or if someone passes by outside So I went a bought a water pistol Its worked for other dogs that I've had After one night I used it but my Poor Zach was traumatized The whole next day he was hiding from me and acted as if I was beating him Never a again .... I felt so bad

| Being a dog, he will forgive.

| I have used a spray bottle in the past...mine mostly just licked their lips lol Don't worry, just give extra hugs..they forget. When my bailey was hurt he associated me with the pain and wouldn't get near me for several days.. I was so hurt but he is giving puppy kisses now!

| Oh No , poor baby. I use a squirt bottle & now all I have to do is show it to them & they STOP in their tracks whatever it was they were doing they weren't supposed to be doing but they don't show any fear of it or me. |

| I'm sure he will forgive you. I have found with an anxious dog that it can sometimes help to put them in a comfy crate right next to your bed....maybe that would help? |

| He's fine now but the poor little guy was traumatized Funny that I've used the same technique on other dogs in the past and my other Yorkie is just fine with it Just that Zach I guess takes everything to heart You guys have similar experiences with your Yorkies?

Senior Yorkie Talker | Sorry to hear about the barking with Zach we tried the same thing Vet told us to use a water bottle for anything they did wrong, barking, chewing carpet, or fighting with each other. All it did was make them want to stay away too. So we tried the real old fashion thing of a rolled up paper and smaked it on our hands when they do something wrong, but Prissy would find it and tear it up, but would shy away, so last night all papers went to the trash can. Don't want them to shy away their our babies and we love them and want them to love us and not be scared of us. At time Bentley gets spooked and we tell him were going to call Ghosbuster> LOL for no reason he will jump up run to the stairway and set there and look down them and think he here things downstair so were up and down the stairs some nights like 50 times to claim his mind. It's really funny then there's times Prissy joins in with him. |

| Check out the "Enough Barking" sticky here. I have been successful in the past with first teaching the "watch me" command. Take a favorite small treat - only a tiny bit - bring it to the dogs nose to get his attention then say the dog's name & watch me in a happy tone while bringing the treat up your eyes. Give the treat the second he looks in your eyes. Once you have that reliably working you can teach "speak" & "enough" & follow the sticky instructions. It's worth a try anyway. Good luck! |

My furkids Donating Member | We have a new little guy too! well...got him the week before Christmas.....so...still new!...anyway...he's tiny so won't be sleeping in our bed...the other 2 are sturdier so they sleep with us...lately this has been going on in our house too...they can hear the leaves move on the tree and start barking....all times of the night! Lillie will lay there and do that low growl and Bentley (crated) with start barking! NOTHING I do stops them...this is a new habit and it needs to stop! THANK GOD we have our own home...if we were in a townhouse or apt we would be evicted!!..He tends to be a nervous little man...I thought of the pennies in a can but, I don't want to traumatize him..gonna go check out that sticky
