| Yorkie is absolutely terrified of other dogs Hi everyone, my yorkie is a year old and he is extremely scared of all other dogs. When I take him out on walks, and he sees another dog, he runs in the other direction. He will not walk if there is a dog walking ahead of us in the park- instead, he sits on the ground until he cannot see it anymore. Usually when he sees another dog, he barks, snaps at the other dog, and runs away. He does not like to be sniffed by or anywhere around any dogs at all. He was not always like this- as a young puppy, he was very social and would go up to all dogs he saw in the park- even big ones. But as he got older, something happened and now he does not want anything to do with other dogs. Last week, I took him to a mini dog park, to allow him to spend some time with other dogs. I thought this might help him to get used to being around dogs, and help him to socialize more, but it only scared him even more. Today, I tried to take him to the same dog park, but he would not go. He would just run in the other direction and delay the trip to the park. So, my question is: has anyone else experienced this with their yorkie? what can I do to help him feel more comfortable and secure around other dogs? what are some good methods to help him become more social? thank you |

| Some places that offer obedience training have classes that are designed to help dogs become less fearful around other dogs. I'd call around and talk to a few trainers to see if you might have something like that in your area. A friend of mine adopted an 8 year old who had fear aggression toward other dogs and took a course like this and now her dog is able to be with other dogs. Your dog is only a year, you might have some ability to help retrain his fears, but you probably need professional help with it.

| Jack is, as I like to call it, "socially awkward." With perseverance, he is getting a bit better. He just likes us and our cats... lol - good luck to you.
