| Peeing while walking We've had an issue with our rescue yorkie which just won't seem to go away. We're still battling with house training, there is no denying that, but he is making it huge trouble for us as he squats (has never attempted to lift his leg inside nor outside) and then he'll walk...up the stairs...down the hall...etc, etc, as he is peeing and making a 20ft stream as he goes. You can only imagine how much fun this is to clean up. Add this to some foul smelling urine and licking afterwards and I thought he had a UTI for sure. My last straw was broken when he peed on my bed prior to going to his crate one night after just coming in from outside (and refusing to do anything). He was at the vet yesterday. I had him ultrasounded and the vet did a cystocentesis (at which point I nearly fainted. Ha). His urine came back totally clean with no bacteria. We gave him an antibiotic anyways just to be safe. He was neutered prior to coming to the rescue at just over 5 months. The vet is wondering if perhaps he had an undescended testicle, which could possibly cause problems if extracted improperly. The vet records I have for his neuter indicate nothing of the sort, but I'm not sure they necessarily would state that. Simply a theory. Does anyone else have experience with a dog peeing and walking? Any advice to share? Last edited by trydare; 05-15-2012 at 07:27 AM. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | What’s the vet’s advice? I wonder if a specialist could be more helpful? I think first I’d would retrain, probably with a crate, and then take him out every couple of hours and place him where I wanted him to go. Carry him, don’t allow him to walk. Have a tether on him so he can’t walk from the spot. After he goes, reward and praise him, and allow him free time to play. After 15 or so minutes he goes back into the crate for another hour or two. Repeat this every couple of hours. If it’s impossible for him to go without walking, I think I’d investigate the possibility of an undescended testicle. I think it's very possible, that the rescue's vet took a shortcut and didn't bother with the other testicle.
