| Quick Question - Eating/Drinking and then Toilet So, my new boy Ellington has his first night with me tonight. He had dinner about 2 hours ago. I have walked him about half an hour after, and just now. He has peed, but no poo. It's now 9:30 at night here, when he got in, he had some water. So.....as a new dog owner....will he need to go out again tonight? I had really hoped he would poop while out! May be a silly question....but.....not sure what to expect! He always tells me when he needs the toilet - lots of moaning, but as its overnight.....I would hate for him to have an accident, he has been so successful so far. |

| No, he is 5 yrs old, but I only got him today. All day he has been moaning when needing toilet. We had a two hour train journey, then an underground journey, and we went out tonight to see a friend. He has moaned each time, to let me know. But obviously I don't know how long he can hold it! I really don't want to have to try the peepad idea.....my apartment is too small for it really. I may just wait up till about 11, and maybe try another short walk.... |

Dogs usually have to poo soon after eating. If you feed him on a schedule it will be easier to figure when he has to go. It just takes some time but you will get to know all his habits. It will make things easier

| Thanks! I took him out, and he peed. Just starting getting ready for bed, and then he started his toilet panic again, so rushed out again, another pee, and managed to find a tiny bit of grass where he finally did a little poo. I'm hoping we can now get to bed! Later, I will have to investigate how to train him out of the panic. He lets me know, and as I start getting up to get his harness/lead he gets noisy. The only time he gets noisy. Once we're walking out he's quiet again. |

I am sure once he gets used to you and his new home he will feel more secure and comfortable. I am so happy for both of you. Sounds like he has a great home
