![]() HI, I am new to this forum. I have a 5 month old yorkie [Chewie] and am crate training him. I work full-time so he is in his crate from 7-11:30 and then 12:30 to 4:30. Is there anyone else out there crating their yorkie's all day like this? I feel guilty that he is locked up all day, then of course again at night. Also, he is pooping in his crate in the afternoon. I can't always get him to go when I come home for lunch. Any suggestions? The crate is small, even when I make it smaller it doesn't matter, he doesn't mind pooping in it. Thanks.

We crate Luigi also from about 12:00 - 8:00 pm. I have a friend who sometimes comes over to let Weegie out but there are days when she is unable to make it over. So he has been left in his cage for 8 hours at a time. And the 1st time he did peepee in his cage but never poopoo. But as soon as we get home, he makes a beeline right for the door!!! But now he is almost 6 monthes, and he IS able to hold it all day. But don't feel quilty!!! That is their safe place, its their home, den. That is the one placed they should always feel totally secure. As long as you never use the cage as a form of punishment. Your baby will get used to it. Luigi has gotten to the point where when he sees me putting my socks and shoes on, he actually goes and gathers up some of his toys he wants for the day and brings them into my room, (Thats where the cage is). He doesn't put them in his cage but we are working on that!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() I crated Riley during those exact same hours when getting him housebroken. He was a fast learner so he was trained by 4 months. Now I don't have to go home during my lunch hour. On occasion I'll let him have free run of the house (my bf doesn't like me to but what he doesnt know won't hurt him lol) while I'm at work but in general I leave him crated when I'm not there all day. When I get home at 4:30 we take a long walk and I make sure he gets to run around as much as he wants. I've been feeling guilty about him being crated for so long so I ordered an ex pen for him on ebay today so he'll have more room to play. I think with the ex-pen everyone wins.
