| Why is my dog pooping on my couch????? OK, I have a 15 month old male Mojo who has maybe never been completely housebroken, but had gotten to the point where he was fairly reliable. About 2.5 months ago, I had to go out of town for a week on business. During that week, he stayed at home with my teenage son and an adult relative. Once I came home from my business trip, it was like all potty training had gone out the window for both my dogs (Maci is a little under a year). About a week or so ago, Mojo peed on my couch! A day or so later, he peed on my loveseat! Then yesterday, he pooped on my couch! What the heck is going on??????? I've had little dogs before- I know the challenges of housebreaking them, but I've NEVER had anyone poop or pee on my furniture!!!!! Obviously, Mojo is back to being leashed to me at all times and we're starting potty training back at square one, but why on earth would he use the couches for a toliet???????

| Was this your first business trip away from Mojo or is this something you need to do on a frequent basis? If the answer is the first...that is most likely the reason he poopied and teeteed on your furniture. Even if it was 2.5 months ago that you took your trip...to him it's recent. Contrary to popular "opinion"....dogs hold grudges just like people tend to do. "Mommy left meeee....take THIS mommy!!" (in a manner of speaking). Dogs are brilliant, but they don't have the capacity to reason in entirety like humans can. He doesn't know you went on a business trip and were not able to take him with you. All he knows is that you walked out the door without him and didn't come back for a week...so he's Teed off, and he's making sure you know it. lol! If it's the latter of the two...perhaps the first reason would still be applicable. He probably just missed you a great deal, and was perturbed that you didn't take him with you (I know it couldn't be helped, things happen). Maybe it would help next time, if you brought back a TON of goodies with you just for Mojo. Bully Sticks...toys...squeakers...treats...chews, etc. At least then he would associate your return with something VERY positive instead of focusing on seeking revenge by pottying on your couch(es). | My male marks when he needs more attention from me. I was reluctant to give it at first, but after much thought, and research, it makes sense, and it worked!. One member's dog pees in front of the front door whenever she leaves the house. I think it's so the member is sure to find her way back home! That is what dogs do, isn't it?

| I guess I'm glad I'm not alone? The business trip was a one time event- I'm not required to travel in my line of work. I think I'll continue with leashing him to me and I'll start teaching him some new tricks... Maybe the extra quality time with just the two of us will help?

| Hmm, he's due for a wellness check pretty quick here, so we'll definitely know for sure. Mojo had pooped on the couch right after being let out. We had just gotten home and my son took them out that time. I walked into the living room right after Mojo had pooped, but neither of us witnessed it. My son is generally really good with them, but sometimes I think he runs around with them too much when they're outside, so it distracts them from doing their business. I explained to him that he needs to let them go potty before playing with them.

It is not uncommon for Yorkies to forget their housetraining rules when their Moms and Dads leave them, whether it be for work or vacations. Doing it on the furniture is a bit over-the-top I'll admit! And the Vet check is an excellent idea, anytime unusual behavior is evident. Always rule out a medical problem that could possibly be causing him to 'act out' first, before assuming the pup is incorrigible. It's tons easier to give a pill and have the problems go away, than it is to start and enforce a new training routine...

| Just to update, the vet cleared Mojo, urine sample came back fine, and now he seems to be back to normal as long as I let him out regularly (i.e. he doesn't ever tell me when he needs to go)

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Good to hear there is no medical issues. This reminds me of my brothers dog! When ever he was left in care of the teenage boys they would ignore him. To the point that if he had to go he went in search of them and almost always found them in their room playing video games. Neither one wanted to get off their lazy butt to put the dogs out so " he peed and pood on their beds" Ya think that after once or twice they would get the hint.... but nope! Same thing with my son... in the am the rule is first one up put the dogs out! Well when he gets up he heads straight for the play station game. So, there have been times when they have literally pooped "Right Beside Him" as he sat there on the floor totally inbound in the games. I guess they showed them....!! Clean up in isle 9...... Solved that problem real quick.. Now my son loosed play station Privileges if he doesn't let the dogs out in the morning.
