Hi,

Bella is my first female...and she did something tonight that made me look twice at her woo-woo. She took her teddy bear, squeezed it with all four of her legs, scrunched up her booty and started going to town (humping it) like crazy. I said audibly "oh my lord Bella what in the world are you doing??" I didn't say it scoldingly, just shocked. I didn't even mean to say it out loud, it just came out naturally at the surprise I was seeing infolding in front of me. It worries me a bit; she's a girl.

She looked at me and tilted her head...like she was curious and confused at Mommy's new emotion (new to her anyway) of serious shock. lol

No, she's not spayed, but will be when she comes of age and meets the vet's weight requirements. She's only 13 weeks old; this can't possibly be something sexual can it??

No you don't have a sexually confused puppy. My Mikki did the same thing. And I posted the very same question.

I was shocked too!! Believe it or not it does go away. Or at least it did with Mikki. After she was fixed and lots of redirection and no ma'ams. She doesn't hump at all any more. If I remember correctly, in my post they told me it was a dominance thing. Maybe someone who posted on mine will tell you what all they told me. I will try to find my old thread as well. Don't worry mommy, she is ok.

Phew, thank you for the relief. I was a bit worried that maybe she had something wrong with her woo-woo and she was trying to itch it or something, but she looked exactly like our male dog used to when he humped his stuffed animals. I inspected her 'down there' and there's nothing unordinary...and she's peeing fine and normally so it had me confuzzled.

Thank you for the reassurance! I'd be very interested to read what was posted on your similar thread.

I did look at past posts but couldn't see anything regarding female humping after looking for a bit, so posted my own. =/

My 4 females share this stuffed lab puppy that is in a sitting position. They hump the stuffing out of this poor thing but never anyone or anything else. They take turns and actually stand in line for their turn. I find it so funny.

Ok, can't find mine. But did find some others. It appears it is a dominance thing. And it looks like it is split down the middle whether to correct them or not. I did not let Mikki do it. I would move her away and say No Ma'am. But it looks like some others think it is an ok thing to do. So, I assume it will be your preference!

my Belle does that too, I guess it's because she's not fixed yet... [ the vet said] but once you get her fixed, it'll go away. ;D
It's so funny though, cause Belle has this big teddy bear that we call it "Boyfriend" and she's super jealous of him.... she humps him all day long LOL and if you try to take him away from her, she gets really upset...

Thank you for the replies everyone. I read them, and read the reference posts as well. After reading one in particular, the realization occurred to me; duh, take away the bear! Well..that didn't work out very well for either of us. She whimpered, and that broke me, so the bear returned once again. However, I said "No Bella, No humpy!" she stomped away frustrated, but hasn't done it again since.

...on another note, how long and how often should she be sleeping at this age? She's 13 weeks in 2 days...and it sure seems like she sleeps an awful lot. The vet says she's perfectly healthy (after three regularly scheduled visits and three when I went there all worried for no reason).

She's sleeping again right now and she *just* had a nap a few hours ago. =/

I do play with her basically every moment she's awake (luckily I do have the time to do that, barring making dinner for us humans).

I don't remember our Brussels sleeping this much at this age. They *are* different dogs with neither dog having the same breeds in them, but still.

Thank you again everyone!! It's time for me to hit the hay.

She is still a baby....and babies need their sleep.

My Cookie does that on occasion. She was spayed years ago...and it never stopped.

All but Lucy are spayed. She very rarely humps the stuffed lab puppy. Spaying has not stopped or decreased the amount my other 3 hump their stuffed puppy.

I have 4 spayed females, and one of them humps occasionally. Today she humped a stuffed Santa toy, and I was shocked but still found it rather funny.

I have two of my fixed females that do it as well. Rosie does it all of the time, when ever she is excited I am home, playing with them ect. but with my poor cat Sammie. Then Lillie does it too. Some times Rosie humps Sammie gets off and Lillie gets on. I say to them " Rosie, Sammie does'nt want humpa humpa burning love. Stop. Poor Sammie does not know what to think. He is so used to it, he puts his paw out to them, like he is telling them, come here and give me a hug. Or rub my back. He just sits there with his eyes closed. He is a love bug. LOL I have asked the vet many times about it. She said it is a dominance thing.I did not know what to think when they first did it. Lillie was 10 weeks old and used to hump our foot. So I knew it was not sexual. It can be embarrassing when we have people over. Rosie does not mind, she still does it. The looks they get. I try to stop it before any one see it, but that does not always work out.

Ziva(2 1/2) always humped a stuffed toy from the time she came home, she played hard with her siblings and was very excitable. I always said No but it didn't prevent her, she seemed to "need "to do it. As time went on I noticed she did it when overtired or after a boring day, always in the evening.
I have not seen her do it since we got Abby(6 months)- she is busy all day long! Abby has never attempted it, much more laid back personality...

My girl did this too, only when she was bored. The solution was to make sure she wasn't bored, and tell her no, then remove the object. She never does it now. Stopped at the age of 6 months if I remember correctly

Bella did that last night for the first time...I could not beleive it! I am glad to find this thread so I know what the heck is going on.
