I don't know how old you are...but, I'm very proud of you for knowing this isn't the right way to treat a yorkie. Has he been neutered? This breaks my heart and I know it does yours too or you wouldn't be here posting for help. I will remember Luke in my prayers.

Hitting an animal is totally unacceptable........please think about taking the dog for a vet check then maybe suggest mom to get into some anger management sessions....just a thought mom!

I think that the mother should be taken out of the home, maybe when she gets to the point she is incontinent someone should beat her and show her how it feels. i'm sorry this is happening and i sure hope this is not how she potty trained her skin kids. the furkids and the skin kids are in my prayers.

Dogs are not peeing on furniture or rugs or floors out of some human notion of payback. I m sure you know this, as your post indicated that; just agreeing with you here.

If the dog hasn't been checked out for a UTI then he needs to be. Is this dog neutered and is the female neutered?

If you are willing and able to put in the time to train this dog, then I suggest you talk with your Mom about allowing you to do so. Show her the training manual/book, you are going to use, and ask for her support in applying these methods.

If that is not going to work out, then I highly suggest you contact a reputable rescue who will find this dog a loving home, where he can be safe from further human aggression.
I agree with Gemy. If you are unable to get him vet checked and your mother is unable to get him trained - with her abusive methods - then I would look into a reputable yorkie rescue.

Yorkies are tiny! How can you hit a little dog like that until it's bruised?

So sad. I truly feel like he would be better off in another environment.

This post has me very sad and very upset, there is no reason for an animal to be treated this way, this is clearly abuse, the dog isn't trying to get "revenge" or using the bathroom out of "spite". There could be a medical issue perhaps he does have a UTI. Or perhaps he is just so scared of your Mom if she's always abusing him that he does it when she's around, I really hope you can help this puppy he doesn't deserve to be abused this way.

I don't know how old you are but I know you want to help your baby. It is heartbreaking when you see someone treating your animal this way and it is your mother and you don't know how to make her stop acting this way. Maybe you have another family member that can help you. Please let us know on YT if you find help or if your mom wants to rehome the dog. I am sure this is very frustrating for you.

I very much doubt it's an attitude. He might have a urinary tract infection or is afraid of your mother and therefore pees out of fear. (I once found a stray dog that was so afraid of being approached that she peed right where she was sitting ) He might also be marking if he's not neutered, or it could simply be that he's not fully potty-trained yet.

This post makes me very sad and angry for both of your dogs. I say "both" because Lina is also at risk of abuse in the future. If I were you, I would take charge of the training and also pay the vet a visit. If this doesn't work out, I would look for a humane shelter/rescue that would do their best to find Luke (and possibly Lina) a better home. From the little you have told us, I think re-homing them would be the best thing to do. I hope the situation improves, and I also want to wish you well. The three of you will be in my thoughts. Please keep us updated if you can.

He may be so scared of her that he doesn't know what to do. Has she tried to spend time with him and train him, is your other Yorkie trained and treated different? I feel so sorry for this poor baby, he just wanted to be loved and doesn't understand why he is being abused. There is a law against this in the state where I live. I hope you can get him some help for your mom. Is there not another adult that can prevent this, hopefully she doesn't treat you like this. You are in my prayers.
I wish that I had not read this too. I actually feel sick to my stomach. I agree with everything you said.

Anyway, My mom is fed up with her 1 yr old male Yorkie, Luke. And I'm kind scared for him

Yesterday, Luke peed on the couch. This is maybe the second time he has done this. My mom was furious. She believes in the spanking method to train dogs (which i don't like) and let me tell you...she spanked him. Spanked him so had that he pooped himself. (She left bruises, too) I don't know why he would pee there. My mom says he had an attidue from not being able to go in the garage (he wanted to play out there, for some reason) so my mom said that's why he ran back to the livning room and peed on the couch.)

Earlier today, I think he may have peed a little in the laundry room. I just cleaned it up, and when my mom asked about I told her I didn't know which dog did it. (we have another yorkie named Lina. She might have done it, actually, but Luke was acting very scared/guilty.)

So now , my mom decided she is not gonna let him get on the couch anymore. So all day she has been keeping him off the couch, occasionaly hitting him if he jumps up there, even though he's been used to getting on the couch for one year. The thing is Lina is still allowed on the couch.

So I don't know if this was his attitude or not, but maybe 30 minutes ago he squatted (unusual for him, btw. He doesn't sqaut much anymore) and peed on the rug. My mom basically raged, and hit him. (Also, I'm not too keen about the way she hit him, either.)

So, during this whole period, I've been looking up symptoms of UTI's in dog, and I'm not sure if he has that, or if he's just needs an attitude adjusment. could it just be his attitude? Anyway, my mom wants is thinking of giving him up, or as she told me, "i might just kill him" (I don't think she'll go through with the killing thing though, my mom likes to exagerate.)

Please, help. Is our Yorkie sick, or just has a major attitude?
Your mother sounds like she needs a reminder that it is a crime punishable by fine and jail to abuse animals and spanking a small dog until he defecated on himself is cruelty to animals. I'm sure a young hungry prosecutor looking to move up the ranks could get a notch on their belt on this easy case. If your mother does not want to be kind to Luke, it is time to surrender him to someone who will. I hope you will speak up against her actions and become Luke's advocate. Or, call animal control on her and they'll do the talking.

im really shocked that your mom would do this!

can you explain to yourmom that this is not ok?

I mean, would she spank a little baby for pooping and peeing in the diaper??

sorry, i dont have much tip except to reinforce good behavours... and not punishment...
because i feel like it could be anxiety... if he gets punished less mb he can improve!

please speak to your mother.

Is there anyone else in the house being treated like this? You can always PM me to talk. I'm across the country but sometimes it just helps to have an ear to share things with.

Please talk to your mom about having him checked by a vet. There is a possible medical problem to his urination. If he is cleared, he is possibly urinating out of fear. It is very real, and very hard to break.

If you can't convince your mom to change her training method, or her attitude towards Luke, please let me know. I see your in California, if I'm in your area, I'd be glad to come get him.

Besides my concern for the dogs is my concern of how old this girl is that is posting. She may not be able to confront her mother with her fears. Her mother is the adult and might not want the girls opinion on how to treat the dogs, maybe her mom thinks because they are dogs she can treat them anyway she chooses, but doesn't realize how much this is hurting her child. If she doesn't have a car or money she can not take the dog to the vet. Also she may get in trouble with her mom if she dared call animal control and report her mother for abuse. I think she just needs some where to vent her feelings and get support. She must love the dogs very much and does not want them hurt but doesn't want to lose them because of her moms horrible behavior. She may not have another adult that she can trust to help her.

The mom's behaviour disgusts me. She should rehome the poor dog before she kills it or completely breaks its spirit. Seriously, this makes me sick.

I feel for the OP. Hard to convice some people that what they're doing is wrong.
