| HELP! Abby messing in crate Abby will be 3 in August and she is crated when we leave the house. Well, I always take her outside to potty before we leave. We may be gone only an hour sometimes longer. I find when I come home she pottys in her crate on her blanket. I just don't know why. Anyone have any ideas what's going on with this. She's healthy, no UTI etc..... It's frustrating.

| I have had the same problem...I finally had to purchase a containment pen from Petsmart and place her in there with a pad. It's alot easier to clean up. Nothings more frustrating then coming home from work and having to break down the crate to clean it, then giving the dog a bath. I would love to be able to get an experts opinion about this housebreaking issue. I had a medium size breed who lived for 10 years. She weighed about 65 pounds full grown. After she was housebroken she had one accident her whole life and that was it. I don't know whether its the Yorkshire Terrier breed or small dogs in general, but have yet to meet someone who has said that there dog is 100% housebroken. I have talked to several people about this. There's nothing worse than having an animal poop and pee in the place that you call home. I am new to this breed and love there personalities, little guard dogs, non-shedding, but this housebreaking can be very very frustrating, almost a deal breaker. Ceasar Milan help!!!!! |

| I have had 2 other Yorkies before Abby and I can say that I never had a problem with housebreaking either one. I always heard people say how hard Yorkies are to housebreak but could never understand that.....until Abby It really is a bit frustrating.

| Well, it appears no one can help me with this issue or has an opinion. My mom thinks she is punishing me when I leave her. I'm not so sure dogs have the ability to do that.

| Hi Abbysmom08, I'm sorry that no one had advice or ideas to help you. I've had lots of rescues, but never had a pup potty in its crate consistantly (maybe an accident or two). I'm thinking maybe seperation anxiety. You could try searching that topic & seeing if soiling the crate is a symptom of that, and if so maybe find a solution. Good luck!! |

| Thanks for responding. I'll do the search on the subject and see what turns up. Thanks again.
