| Collar training? Mia has not completed all of her shots, so she can't go walk about outside just yet. When should I start training her to wear her collar and get used to the leash? Now? And does anyone have any advice about training her to wear the collar...I tried to put it on her once and she definitely didn't like that. How do I do it without feeling cruel and unusual? What is your opinion about collars anyway...should I be using a harness instead? Don't I want to have her wear the collar because of the id tag? And should I take the collar off when she's in her pen? |

| I wouldn't ever use a collar to walk a Yorkie. Their trachea's are too sensitive. Even my big boy Jackson (16lbs) has a sensitive neck so I only walk him in a harness. He does wear a collar nearly 24/7 with ID tags but the harness goes on for walks. Puppies usually don't like them. You just have to let them get used to it. I probably wouldn't leave it on in a crate just in CASE it gets caught on something, but a lot of people leave them on w/o problems.

| When Ziva was a puppy we put on a soft little collar as part of play time, My daughter called it her necklace and fussed over her- didn't take long until she actually liked it! We added the leash the same way and walked her around her room. The harness was easier because by than she learned that meant outside. We have switched to a step-in style but she still puts her head down when we get the harness out. |

| I've had collars on my dogs since they came home as puppies. They wear ID tags all the time. As puppies, I made sure I checked the collars as they grew and I take them off and put them back on daily after brushing them out. Ours wear harnesses for walking and I like a step-in harness best.

| I also started mine with collars and tags when I got them as puppies. They have harnesses for walking. They are not crated so the collars stay on except for grooming time.
