Letting Yorkie's sleep in your bed? I have let my Yorkie Lola sleep in my bed from night two. I found that was the only way to make her sleep through the night, as she just cried all night in her crate. I just wondered what you lot do? Do you let your Yorkie in your bed? Opinions on it? :animal36 |
Yes! Same here, from the 2nd or 3rd day I had her, so I could sleep! She's no problem in bed. Goes to sleep right away every night and has never had a potty accident in bed. My only issue is that she doesn't like to sleep in on weekends...and I'd like to. |
Yep, Zhoie started sleeping with us when she was right around 5 mos and fully trained. It was our choice, she sleep in her house, but we wanted her with us. ;) My girl's a real bed bug, she will hang in as long as we sleep. :D |
Rosie sleeps right in between me and my hubby! I wouldn't have it any other way! :) |
Ruby sleeps between me and hubby and has been sleeping with us since she was 5 mos old. She is pee pad trained , and gets up during the night to use her pad. She also has a bed on a bench at the end of our bed that she uses. |
Mine both started sleeping in my bed as soon as they were potty trained, before that they slept in either a crate (my older one) or an expen setup (my younger one). |
Nice to find some like minded people! The lady who runs the puppy class I take Lola too tells me off for putting her in my bed. I couldn't let her cry all night - it was the only way to get some sleep! She seems to like sleeping in my bed though, and as long as she's happy, I'm happy :) |
Kaji sleeps with me also. But that was months after I had gotten him. Now, I can't sleep without my cuddle bug with me. |
A little backwards but..... Yes, I DO realize this is inherently the opposite of what most desire!! However, as a yorkie owner for 20+ years, I've always had them sleep in bed with me & NEVER had any undesirable consequences.* My newest lil' man, Frankie, has been trained/accustomed to sleeping in his crate (which is in my room) from day 1. He is now a little more than one year old & I'd like for him to sleep with me.* Before Frankie, it had been about 8 yrs since last getting & training a puppy so I cannot remember how we transitioned our other dogs from sleeping in the crate to on the bed. ** Anyway, I decided to give it a shot last night. OH BOY!!!!! Frankie was super excited and wanted to crawl all over or jump on my head & give kisses. Super cute but it was supposed to be night-night time! Lol. So I created a makeshift "pillow fence" near me so it forced him to stay within a smaller, enclosed area on the bed. He eventually settled down & after some petting & scratching, he fell asleep. Five minutes later, he's back to jumping around, giving kisses & trying to wiggle through the pillow fence. Once again, *he did relax and fell asleep but only for a few minutes. Then, I repeated the above but to no avail. I finally acquiesced and put him back in his crate where he fell (& STAYED) *asleep all night.* So, can anyone recommend some tips to essentially "train" Frankie to sleep in my bed? I have read about using toys and treats but I don't want him to equate being in the bed with playtime (which is when he gets those things). He's seriously got more energy than a busload of Kindergarteners & the ONLY time he honestly relaxes/sleeps is while in his crate.* Any advice would be IMMENSELY appreciated!!! ;-) |

My yorkie slept wit me from day one.... its ok I guess he never peed in my bed once... he is not potty fully potty train either... i |
I tried crating Gizmo and it got to the third week with little to no sleep. So, we finally caved and let him in our bed and he sleeps at the bottom, sleeps throughout the whole night, and we're all happier. I never thought I would allow a dog in my bed, but it's so sweet to have a little furbaby be your alarm clock in the morning. The key to it, IMO, is making sure you have a set schedule that you stick to so there are no accidents. |
Bentley has been sleeping with us since he's been about 2 months old. I got during the night for awhile 3 to 4 times a night to have him go potty, but now he sleeps all night long. He enjoys his sleep as much as we do. He is so funny. He curls up in a little ball between us. |
Sophie has been in my bed since day 2 also. She sleeps right by my face, with me usually holding her. If I get in bed first, she just comes right up there. She will sleep with me as long as I am in bed. And if I take a nap during the day, she's right there too. I have a lazy little girl :) |
Yep....hubbby and I put Lexi in bed with us so we could all get some sleep..and well she has been there ever since...LOL We wouldn't want it any other way either. She will sleep as long as we sleep and loves the weekends when we can all sleep late :D |

My Bella sleeps with me since day 2. She does wake up early but I throw some clothes on real quick and she goes out, takes care of business, then we come back in and lay down again. There have only been a couple times when she didn't want to go back to sleep but play but normally she will lay down. I wouldn't have it any other way. My DH is afraid he will roll on her so I sleep in the middle. When she is older, I will try to work her into the middle though. |
We have 5 & a cat, they all sleep with us in our king size bed. Wouldn't have it any other way!!! :) |

My Diamond sleeps with us... Sometimes my husband will try to snatch her up to sleep with him, but she likes to lay alone... I think she gets hot! She used to wake up when he did for work, now she sleeps thru it... Sometimes she even sleeps thru when I get r Pom out to potty... If she gets up, she crawls back in bed... She has become accustomed to my sleep patterns... If I stay in bed all day, so does she! I tell her to go out and play but she would rather be by me... Wish the Pom was that lazy but hes still a puppy and he does take naps often... ;) She will get up and lay on the tile or her own bed... I feel abandend when she does lol... But I always wake up next to her. Oh and if she is in bed and we get up for any reason,,, she runs over and steals r spot!!! Pillow thief!!! :) |

Cody slept in his crate for the first 5 months. Since then he sleeps between me and hubby. He's a snuggler and in the morning when we're getting up he climbs on my chest with puppy kisses. If I tell him to "wake up papa", he climbs on hubby to wake him up. |
Lacie was in my bed since night 1, just to ease the shock of being in a new environment and away from her litter mates. I spent quite a bit of time on day 2 putting her to nap in her own little bed, with no problems. For the first week she would try her hardest to get into bed with me at night, but I did not give in. 6months later, she spends a few hours in bed with me and night and then knows its time for her to get to her own bed when I let her down....mama likes to stretch out at night!! |
I can't remember if I toughed it out the first night, but I know Princess was in bed with me by the second. She used to stay there the entire time but now she'll go to the floor, couch, or her bed in the hall throughout the night. She's always with me by morning & she'll sleep as long as I do. |
My Yorkie Pixie (lost her october last year) would sleep with us pretty much all the time but she was also good sleeping in a bed which would be next to my side of the bed, winter in with us and summer in her own bed! I now have a Lola too (chihuahua) and she sleeps with us EVERY night! she's pretty good although sometimes she wakes us up very early!:thumbdown |
Both our babies sleep in in their separate fenced area, with pee pad a few toys, food and water, and their crate. In the morning we have a special blanket to bring the up on the bed on, but they have to stay on the blanket! Im a nurse, and a germ freak, and I hate to think of where the feet have been, what kind of bacteria thrives (even after baths) thats getting tracked on my bed. Just like I wouldnt get into bed with shoes on! |

Tried having Teddie sleep next to the bed in his own bed, and...he had accidents. So I took to bringing him up into the bed, no more accidents. Sometimes he chooses to sleep in his bed, next to our bed, and still no accidents at 6 mos. of age. I am guessing he learned not to piddle when it is bedtime. Of course I have a routine with him so that is a benefit for him to know what is up at all times. When Daddy gets up for work he goes potty with big brother pom, then lays down with me for an hour before I have to get up and start my day. If Dad has to be up at 3 or 4 in the morning, Teddie lets him know it's not even close to time to wake him up to potty. LOL |
Teddy didn't start sleeping with me until he was 6 months old. I let him cry cry cry in his crate until I finally got him to like being in there...now he naps in his crate willingly throughout the day :) |
My babies won't sleep anywhere else but my bed (more like OUR bed now). they'll sleep as long as I sleep which is great! |
