Deterring female Yorkie from peeing on the rug

I have two female Yorkie's and both pee on the big, but washable, rug in the family room. Is there anything I can spray on the rug to make them not want to pee there?

I keep my yorkie's gated from the rest of the house, but occasionally their big brother, a boxer, will unlatch the gate and they can get to the carpet. They like to make the carpet their personal bathroom, too. Do they do this because they think it is their pee pad? I have never had so much trouble with house training before. This is the first time I have pad trained, though.

I think to a dog, throw rugs and pee pads look the same. If they have peed on it before you can try to wash the pee stains with white vinegar and water or just throw it out all together.
Training is hard but you just have to keep trying, sooner or later they will get the hang of it.
You may want to get some diapers for them for when they walk around the house, Linda from FuFu Fashions makes some really really cute ones.

Thanks, so much for your quick response. I have used vinegar on the rug and even when new ones are purchased for that room, they still pee on it. I will check out the diapers.

I trained my girls to use the disposable potty pads and things were fine other than them shredding the pads...so...I took the advice of some here on YT and switched to the washable potty pads. At the time it made sense...they couldn't shred them...it saved money...yada, yada, yada...

However, now my girls will pee on my throw rugs at times...I think it's because the washable pads are soft and cushy like a rug. I wish I would have found the disposable pad tray and stayed with the disposable pads in the beginning. I now use the tray with a disposable pad and things are back to normal.

Oh I'm glad I read this post lol. because I was getting ready to change my baby girl over to that reuseable pads but really glad I haven't .... sherrie

I use the washable pads & disposables (when I'm slacking on laundry duty...) I've not had any problems with ZoE peeing anywhere but on her pads. I'm wondering if it's because she knows where to go, not just on what to go. The pee pads have been in the same place since the day I brought her home. When she used a playpen, I put the playpen around her potty area. So, the place she goes potty in our home hasn't ever changed. (same as my mum & dad's place..she has a designated spot).

I admit, I praise like a crazy & reward with a treat everytime she goes. If ZoE goes potty while I'm out, she'll show me where she went on her pad when I get home so she gets a treat.

So far, switching back to the disposable pads have not helped. The pad is in the same place that it always has been. It is more the older Yorkie than my younger one.

Either you're not completely getting the smell out which is attracting them back to it, or they just like that rug lol. Remember that just because you can't smell it doesn't mean the dogs can't. Is it always on the same spot/general area of the rug or anywhere on it?
Have you tried a cleaner specifically meant for pet stains and odors. I personaly really like The Equilizer, I get it on Amazon.
if that doesn't work, I'd honestly just pull that rug up. One of my cats had this obsession with peeing on one specific rug in our bathroom. After numerous cleanings and washing, I finally just got rid of it.
My only other thought if you're really against pulling it up and you're sure the smell is out - they make these things to keep pets off of furniture that have a sensor and when the pet gets close it gives of a noise they don't like, just an idea to maybe train them to just stay off that rug all together.
