| Potty Pads... I'm traveling a lot for my job and am very lucky that Logan can travel with me. However, I'm having a huge problem getting him to use a potty pad in hotels. He is potty trained to go outside and does pretty well, with only occasional accidents at home. Any advice on how to train him to use the pad?? Thanks in advance for your help!!

| I bought the housetraining spray and use it as instructed then sit on the floor with him and try to explain it. LOL! Then as soon as I get up he runs in the bathroom and pees all over the floor. UGH!!! What am I doing wrong?!?

| Use food. Wait until he has to go, put him on a leash and on the pad and give him a command to go. I use "be clean" in a directive voice. The minute he finishes pop a piece of delicious food in his mouth (I use a cube if white meat chicken). Praise lavishly. Before you know it he will be trying to pee for you any time he thinks there might be food. My trainer calls this being the slot machine.

| Great Question!! I was just going to start a thread and ask the same question!! My Coby turned one in January, and is trained to potty outside since I got him when he was a baby. Some days, I am away from home a little longer than I like to be, and I would like to put a potty pad down at the back door, just in case he couldn't hold it until I returned home. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! |
