| Oh no! Home alone! You guys were absolutely wonderful giving advice and helping me with the crate training. It's going pretty well so far; she totally has to be coaxed in and frequently has to be coaxed into sleep. She'll hang out, play, and eat by it but won't go in on her own. But I know that it takes time, that Noli is still so young (8 weeks) and that she will get better. But I've got work tomorrow and can't find a sitter. It's a short shift - I'll be gone for just over three hours. Then later there will be 45 minutes between when I leave for my second job and the boyfriend gets home from his. But I'm absolutely terrified to leave her. She was home for 2 hours on Saturday and I'm almost 100% certain she was hysterical the entire time. Though she did pee and poop on the paper :-D (it's the little things). I got an xpen but it was too big for the apartment. We've got a nice setup in the hallway, though. I've put in her crate, a bunch of toys, her food and water bowls, and pee pads (when the boyfriend left her on Saturday he also had classical music playing). But she HATES it. I'm trying the techniques I've found on here...leaving her for a bit then coming when she's quiet. The trouble is that she is never quiet. She doesn't stop crying. Five seconds at the most? Not long enough that I think she'd understand the connection. I try to reward her but she's uninterested in treats. She just started her nap; she's in her crate in the living room with me. QUICK! Any tips for after she wakes up? How can I calm her down?

She is awfully young to be away from her Mom and litter mates...try putting something of yours with her in the crate...something she can cuddle in that has your scent on it. Or...you could always get her a brother or sister!

| That doesnt seem to be an unreasonable amount of time for her to be alone. I would get her used to it by leaving for 5 mins then 10 then 15 and so on untill she is used to you coming and going

| 3 hours is the max I'd go...I'd be looking really hard for a friend, relative etc to puppy sit her...but sometime they have dogs and you are left with the option of leaving them alone...doesn't your vet have boarding-that's the best option for a dog that can't go to daycare because of medical or vac. issues... A ticking clock under the dog bed in the play pen should work good-if you were really interested (cheaper than the ones for puppies) go to walmart, or otherwise and get one of the baby womb sounds stuffies-they are puppy safe as they are infant safe-no eyes nose etc to be pulled off and choked on... Keep the vet's number and your emergency puppy kit (should have a syringe dropper for measuring, karo, nutrical, triple antibiotic ointment, I keep Apple Cider Vinegar in mine too it's my must have, safety scissor nippers) handy just incase you walk in the door to an emergency-best to be prepared...with a pup so young are you using a water bottle for giving water or a bowl... Might want to consider a bottle for safety...dog water bottle I have to use one for my miniature schnauzer as they are not actually supposed to drink from bowl-bacteria infections in their beard from wetness... |

| Hey guys! So I got home about an hour and a half ago, and Noli was needless to say very happy to see me! I had spent the day yesterday and this morning trying to prep her, but nothing ever took. Treats don't work, but I'm going to ask my vet for some samples or recommendations so I can find something she likes to train her with. I managed to set up a webcam and watched it obsessively while I was at work, though unfortunately without volume. She cried for the whole 3 hours, I swear. Maybe 20 minutes max calm? And she was in her crate for all of 5 minutes, if that. But she bounced back quickly, had lunch and some water, peed a few times and played. Now she's resting contentedly on my chest. :-) I have a friend coming over to watch her tomorrow, and a second friend who yelled about me because I didn't ask him (I posted for help on FB!)...so quite a few backups for next time.
