One step forward, ten steps back...:( I'm sure someone has had this problem before me, so I hope someone can help me. I've been crate training Teddy since I got him. He finally got accustomed to being in his crate and resting for two-three hours at a time, then I'd take him out and play with him (he'd use the potty on disposable pee pads before playing) we'd play for about 40 minutes to an hour and a half and then he'd go back in his crate. Teddy stops whatever he is doing and runs to the pee pad if he needs to use it at any given time when he is not in his crate. Wonderful right? Well I finally bought pet gates to enclose the area where his pee pad usually is along with most of the dining room so that he doesn't have to be in his crate when we are not playing. His crate is still in the area, however now the crate is open (within the gated area) so that he can play, potty etc. Well, now he's starting to attack his pee pad, which heh as never done before. I'm not sure if its because he's frustrated because of this change or what but he is just digging and biting and dragging his pee pad all over the enclosed area, which quite frankly scares me because I'm afraid what he'll do when I'm not home. I have a washable pee pad underneath the disposable one because I'm trying to transition from one to the other so he grabs the disposable one and moves it out of the way and he starts this clawing/digging motion on the washable one...if anyone can offer me some advice I'd appreciate it. I introduced the gated area slowly, played with him for an hour in it, gave him time alone, gave him plenty of treats etc so I didn't just dump him in there and left him alone, its only after being there for 2 hours that he started doing this...

How old is Teddy? This is exactly why I use washable pee pads for mine. The puppies just love to shred disposable pads! Any paper really. They grow out of it somewhat but for now, I would just use the washable one's. Make sure he has plenty of toys to play with too. If there is nothing else to distract them, sometimes they will play tug with the washable one's too. I buy my washable pads here. Used Waterproof Pads Even though they are used, most times you can't even tell. Sometimes they might have a small hole but usually they are perfect to me.

He has plenty of toys to play with, in fact a lot more now because before when he was in his crate he would just stick all of his toys under his little bed so as to not sleep on them, now he has access to all of his toys. Teddy is 4 months old, but was not playing tug of war with it until just now. The washable pee pad is underneath the disposable one because he does not pee on the washable one yet so I'm in the process of transitioning him.

Good Luck Sorry I don't have the perfect answer, as my boy is only 14 weeks, ans we are going through a similar problem. I am going to try the washable ones too. Tucker loves to grab a corner and go to town shredding or pulling around the room. Hopefully we both have good results! Good Luck! Carrie & Tucker
