One step forward, ten steps back...:( I'm sure someone has had this problem before me, so I hope someone can help me. I've been crate training Teddy since I got him. He finally got accustomed to being in his crate and resting for two-three hours at a time, then I'd take him out and play with him (he'd use the potty on disposable pee pads before playing) we'd play for about 40 minutes to an hour and a half and then he'd go back in his crate. Teddy stops whatever he is doing and runs to the pee pad if he needs to use it at any given time when he is not in his crate. Wonderful right? Well I finally bought pet gates to enclose the area where his pee pad usually is along with most of the dining room so that he doesn't have to be in his crate when we are not playing. His crate is still in the area, however now the crate is open (within the gated area) so that he can play, potty etc. Well, now he's starting to attack his pee pad, which heh as never done before. I'm not sure if its because he's frustrated because of this change or what but he is just digging and biting and dragging his pee pad all over the enclosed area, which quite frankly scares me because I'm afraid what he'll do when I'm not home. I have a washable pee pad underneath the disposable one because I'm trying to transition from one to the other so he grabs the disposable one and moves it out of the way and he starts this clawing/digging motion on the washable one...if anyone can offer me some advice I'd appreciate it. I introduced the gated area slowly, played with him for an hour in it, gave him time alone, gave him plenty of treats etc so I didn't just dump him in there and left him alone, its only after being there for 2 hours that he started doing this... |
