| when can i wonder around mom my boy was mostly pottytrained. i say mostly b/c he will potty next to his litter box if there is anything in there. the last few months ive been sick, so i was at home most of the time with him. i have recently went back to work so he is confined to the laundry room while im gone. the last couple of days maybe even a week or so i've noticed he's chewing on the door edges and he is using the restroom outside of the litter box . he also runs from me when i call him like he thinks im going to put him back in the laundry room. i let him out as soon as i get home and he doesnt go back in ther til in the morning. what is going on and what can i do to correct this? i dont spank him when he has accidents or chews but i will fuss at him while im cleaning it up ( since its just me and him i have no one else to fuss at). but i have to correct this before it gets out of hand...im afraid to leave him not locked up while im gone b/c i think he will potty all over the house. the point is when should i let him wonder without ever being confined again? can someone please tell me what im doing wrong? i love him to death but am very frustrated

| Perhaps if you put him in a little play pen in an area where he can see more of the house he would be happier? We don't let Pinot wander the house either (when we are here or otherwise) because she is not housetrained yet so I can certainly understand you not wanting to let you little one wander. I hope someone who knows what they are talking about is able to help you

Clear deodorant on the woodwork might deter the chewing. It works well for us. (Someone on this list suggested this before me - wish I knew who; I'd love to gvie them credit for their great idea!) Be sure to give him plenty of things to chew on while you are gone. Stuffed Kongs are great (especially frozen - makes them have to work even harder to get all the goodies out). Bones, toys, etc. You might leave a radio or tv on for him so that the house isn't so quiet. You might also try feeding him in the laundry room and doing whatever else you can think of to give him more pleasant associations with being in there. | |
