| Therapy Dog Training Hi Everyone! I've been an avid YT reader since I got my lil Yorkie pup, but I have hardly posted. I had a question. Has anyone trained their yorkie to be a therapy dog? My little pup is 4 months old and starts her first (basic) training class tomorrow. I know she'll do great b/c she's super smart (she is a yorkie, after all!) and she's picked up on all of her tricks very quickly. I think training her to help out others would be a great experience for both of us. She loves people (children too), just like her mama! I know they cannot start until they're at least one. Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime to get ready for this, aside from training her on what she needs to know? Also, it would be great to hear some experiences from people who have done this!!! Thanks for your time |

| You could PM yorkietalk member alaskayorkie. I know his Eddie is a therapy dog, and there's a few others on here. I'm pretty sure there's a few organizations (TDI?? I think is one them) that do the therapy dog test. I *believe* they first must receive their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and then go on to get their TDI. Good luck! I LOVE seeing others into training/etc with their Yorkies. They are so smart and have so much potential. Keep up the great work. I'm sure she will makes lots of people happy.

| My two take obedience and will hopefully one day be therapy dogs. The school I'm with is part of and supports Therapy Partners. The are a part of Delta Society. Sadie is two and started at the age of your pup. I'm not sure about all therapy groups but ours do have to pass CGC and be at least two years old. Honestly, Sadie is just now settling down to where I believe she could do it. I've enjoyed obedience so much with mine! Good luck!!
