| New Odd Behavior with Food Aggression Okay, we have a rescue that we adopted in May named Zander. He was brought into the rescue in October 2009, we began fostering him in January 2010. My wife couldn't part with him so I adopted him for her for our 14 year anniversary on May 3, 2010. He is estimated to be between 8-10 years old and came from a puppy mill as a stud. So here's the deal. All of our kiddos (5 of them) have separate dishes at food time. Zander likes to eat in front of his crate in a separate room (not blocked off from the others, just likes to eat in the laundry as opposed to the kitchen). As of late, he has been eating "part" of his food...then sauntering into the kitchen and moves close to the others and starts growling at them until they move away from their dish. He then proceeds to eat their food....and after he makes his rounds, he goes back and lays beside his food dish but won't touch it. They all get feed the same thing and it is prepared the same way. Any ideas about the new behavior? We haven't had any new additions and all of them have been together since he arrived.

| As soon as he goes to another dog and does that, I would pick him up and put him back in the laundry room in front of his bowl and close the door! He needs to learn that that is his food and that it is inappropriate to take others. If you do that a few times, chances are he will get it!

| Thanks, we have started the picking him up and moving him back...but we haven't closed the door (duh)....about 30-45 seconds later he will just waltz back to them. If I stand in the kitchen he will look at me and then won't go near the others, I just can't figure out why he started it to begin with....just odd.

| This is classic food aggressive behavior He's eating pretty much what he wants from his dish and then eats from the other dishes to SHOW dominance ..... Hence aggression Simple end is to pick up all the dishes when he does this If the other dogs are not done .... He needs to be separated He cannot be allowed to show this kind of behavior for any length of time
