How can I get him to pee on his pads?

Caesar is 10 months old now and he is potty trianed to go outside. Now that it is getting cold out there, he doesn't want to even go outside. I have to put him in the grass and he runs back to the cement. Then he holds it all day long. Is there a way that I can train him to go on a pee pee pad for the inside? Or is this a bad idea? I would also be more comfortable leaving him inside by himself while I'm not home, if he used a pee pee pad. Can someone give me some advise if it is good to do both (inside and outside)?

My are trained to do both. They mostly go on the pad, But love to go out side. I would take a peepad and try and soak up a little pee or poo on it and lay it in the house. That way he can smell it and know that it is ok to go there.

I confine mine to a small area - like the kitchen. Put the food and water in one place, near his bed - potty pads go as far away as possible. They don't want to "go" anywhere near their bed and food. Keep him in that area until he "goes". Praise him and give him treats. He'll catch on quickly. Use several pads at first and gradually take them away until you're down to one.
Or you can use a crate and take him from the crate immediately to a pad (confined area - like the shower) and leave him there until he goes.
The puppies I just sold were 11 weeks old and most of the time they would hit the potty pad. People were here looking at one of them when he ran down the hall to the potty pad, did his business and came running back. That helped sell him I am sure.

It's kinda hard to train them to go on the pad if they are trained to go outside. Toki was trained on the pad for 10 months and now outside. He only uses the pad when emergencies but most of the time he prefers going outside. So maybe your yorkie might not want to go on the pad even if you try trainining on the pad. Very difficult.

In the beginning as many of you may remember, I tried really hard to train Deb to go outside. She would go in her crate and never mind that she was lieing in pee or poo. We could be outside for hours and she would not go. Once we came back in..she would immediatly go in her kennel I finally tried the pads in her x-pen. They are on the opposite end of the pen from her bed and she is doing great! Maya came to live with us last week and she is doing great with the pads too!!! They have a few accidents still...but they are only 4.5 and 3.5 months old!! When training them we just put them on their leases...and keep them on the pad until they go. Just like taking them out..only not Both my babies hate bad weather...so I am just as happy with the pads We are still working on getting them to realize that they need to go back to the pads when they are not in the pen...but even that has begun to click!!!

My babies continue to do well with the pads....but I have to tell you...having two of them use them....my kitchen has really started smelling. I am changing the two pads like twice a day..at least...but twice the fun...also means twice the pee Anyone have any suggestions on cutting down the odor?

Oh goodness, I am in a SIMILAR boat as well. Maggie is 11 months and not completely trained in either aspect. I've tried and tried to make her completely trained to go outside.. and she's doing better. BUT, she doesn't hesitate to pee or poop on the floor if she feels like it. I take her out very frequently and everything.

I would love to have her trained on the pads. When I leave my apartment, i put a baby gate up in the kitchen. She gets food/water, a toy, pee pad, and if i'm gone long enough her crate or a blanket. She responds really well and pees or poops on the pad in there. However, if she is not locked in the kitchen, she will not go on the pad. I've come to realize that she does not like to do her business on the cold tile floor. This is why she loves to do it on my carpet.. i mean who wouldn't? soft and warm lol. So, her only semi-soft option in the kitchen in her pee pad. I WISH she would catch onto the concept completely. There is ALWAYS a pee pad out but she would rather go on the carpet

I am too struggling with the litter training. Sophie is 5 months old. I just put her outside to go and she would not go. All she wanted to do is play. So I brought her back inside she took off and before I could get her she pooped in the house. Help. I have been trying the pads and no luck. I have her pee smell on it but she does not even want to smell it. Has anyone every tried the dog litter that you can buy? I need help. Any suggestions would be great.
